In a recent episode of ABC's "The View," the hosts were seen applauding President Joe Biden's controversial decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden.

The decision, which has been met with widespread criticism, was hailed as a "great gift of freedom" by the show's hosts. Hunter Biden was previously found guilty on gun charges in Delaware and had pleaded guilty to tax charges in California.

The show's moderator, Whoopi Goldberg, was particularly vocal in her support of the pardon, insisting that Biden had not lied when he previously stated he would not pardon his son under any circumstances. Goldberg referred to Biden's decision as a "change of heart," and used the opportunity to take a swipe at President-elect Donald Trump.

According to RedState, Goldberg stated, "Yesterday Biden had a change of heart granting his son a full pardon on tax evasion and federal gun charges. He released a statement that, quote, says, “no reasonable person who looks at the facts can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out because he is my son. That is wrong, and there's no reason to believe it will stop here. Now, I hope Americans will understand why a father and a president would come to this decision.”

Goldberg's comments were met with applause from co-host Sunny Hostin, who joined in the celebration of Biden's decision. However, Goldberg failed to mention that Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith recently dropped his federal election interference case against Trump, and that a U.S. federal judge dismissed the case accusing Trump of improperly handling/retaining classified documents. Trump is also seeking dismissal of the New York criminal case in which he was found guilty in May of 34 felony counts involving falsified business records.

Goldberg continued her commentary by comparing Biden's pardon to those granted by Trump during his term. She stated, "I look at the list of folks that you-know-who pardoned during the first term. He granted 237 acts of clemency, 143 pardons, and 94 commutations, including Michael Flynn, Roger Stone, Paul Manafort, Charles Kushner, Steve Bannon, George Papadopoulos, Albert Pirro, and Lil Wayne."

However, Goldberg failed to acknowledge the key difference between the two situations. Unlike Biden, Trump did not repeatedly pledge that he would not pardon the individuals he ultimately did. Furthermore, none of the individuals pardoned by Trump were his family members, a fact that further distinguishes the two situations.

Goldberg later defended Biden's decision, stating, "You know, it is a president's prerogative. People can say, why are you doing that? That's what presidents do every time. They do it every time. They pardon somebody."

However, the controversy surrounding Biden's decision is not simply about the act of pardoning, but rather the fact that Biden had previously pledged not to pardon his son. This perceived lie, coupled with the fact that Biden chose to favor a family member over the law, has led to widespread criticism.

Co-host Alyssa Farah voiced her disagreement with Goldberg's stance, stating, "Most Americans, if they face consequences for actions that they took, they're going to have to face them, and nobody powerfully and politically connected is going to come sweep in and save them."

Farah went on to criticize Biden for lying about his intentions, stating, "I wanted to ask him here when he came on "The View," but the thought was he said so many times he wasn't going to pardon him. That to me is lying to the public."

Despite the controversy surrounding Biden's decision, the hosts of "The View" continue to defend and celebrate it. This has led to criticism from conservative outlets, who view the show's stance as indicative of a broader bias in the media. However, regardless of the controversy, the hosts of "The View" continue to provide entertainment and discussion on a variety of topics, much to the delight or dismay of their viewers.
