The final investigative report from the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic has accused former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo of committing "medical malpractice."

The report, which spans over 500 pages, alleges that Cuomo not only engaged in medical malpractice but also deliberately concealed the actual number of nursing home fatalities in New York due to COVID-19.

According to The Blaze, the report states, 'Cuomo's executive chamber decided to remove "out-of-facility" fatalities — such as nursing home residents who died from COVID after falling ill and being transferred to hospitals.' This decision, the report suggests, significantly reduced the total death toll, thus creating a false narrative about the severity of the pandemic in New York's nursing homes.

Over the past few months, the subcommittee has been releasing findings from its investigations. These findings accuse Cuomo of making "criminally false statements" about a July 2020 New York State Department of Health report. This report allegedly downplayed the number of COVID-related nursing home deaths by 46%. Despite his testimony to the contrary, the subcommittee asserts that Cuomo was "directly involved in editing" the health report.

The subcommittee's final conclusion is damning. It states that Cuomo "Likely Gave False Statements to the Select Subcommittee in Violation of 18 U.S.C," a federal crime that could potentially result in a five-year prison sentence. In October, the subcommittee referred Cuomo's alleged "criminally false statements" to the Department of Justice for prosecution. However, this referral does not necessarily mean the DOJ will proceed with the investigation.

The report further criticizes Cuomo's decision to place COVID patients in nursing homes. It argues that this decision was "antithetical to known science," contradicted federal guidelines, and thus amounted to "medical malpractice." The report also accuses Cuomo of attempting to "cover it up."

Richard Azzopardi, Cuomo's spokesperson, has dismissed the report's findings. He told the New York Post that the report was "the same weak gruel the MAGA Republicans on this committee have been peddling for months if not years." He further accused the Republican-led panel of targeting its "perceived political enemies."

Azzopardi stated, "From the very beginning this has been an abuse of power and a waste of taxpayer money aimed at punishing perceived political enemies — like Dr. [Anthony] Fauci [then director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases], Governor Cuomo, and 'the deep state' — that does nothing to make us more prepared for the next pandemic."

He also pointed out that "The DOJ — three times — the Manhattan DA, and others looked at the nursing home issue and found no wrongdoing, while the meritless civil lawsuit launched by the very same people who have been working arm and arm with this committee was tossed out of court." Despite these assertions, the subcommittee's report paints a different picture, one of alleged malpractice and cover-ups at the highest level of New York's government.
