Neama Rahmani, the former prosecutor, stated that Hunter Biden confidently withdrew from a straightforward drug diversion program in Delaware, fully aware that his father would grant him a pardon.
According to Newsweek, Rahmani, who currently presides over the West Coast Trial Lawyers law firm in California, suggested that Hunter Biden had been meticulously devising a legal strategy, banking on the certainty of a pardon from his father. This, Rahmani believes, is the reason behind Hunter Biden's decision to abandon a "sweetheart" deal in Delaware last year. This deal could have concluded his gun and tax evasion cases in exchange for his agreement to participate in a drug recovery program. Rahmani described the deal as a "no-time misdemeanor deal that would have avoided the felony prosecutions and the embarrassment of a trial."

President Biden's decision to pardon his son was announced last Sunday. Hunter Biden was awaiting sentencing following convictions in California for tax evasion and in Delaware for possession of a weapon while under the influence of drugs. The sentencing dates were set for December 12 for the weapon possession case and December 16 for the tax evasion case in California. The sweeping pardon not only exonerates Hunter Biden of these charges but also provides him immunity for any potential federal crimes committed from January 1, 2014, through December 1, 2024.

Rahmani further stated, "President Biden's plan to pardon his son was in the works for quite some time given the implosion of Hunter's diversion deal in his Delaware gun case and his guilty plea to tax charges in California." He added, "Neither of those decisions made any sense if he wasn't already promised a pardon, given they opened him up to considerable prison time." Rahmani also criticized President Biden's previous assertions that he wouldn't pardon his son as "disingenuous."
