This follows the President's decision to pardon his son, which has effectively cleared the path for Congress to summon Hunter as a witness.
As reported by Newsweek, Adams' comments were in response to the President's announcement on Sunday that he had pardoned Hunter, who was awaiting sentencing on charges of tax evasion and gun possession. The pardon also extends to any crimes Hunter may have committed from January 1, 2014, through December 1, 2024, a period that is crucial to prosecutors' investigation into foreign lobbying and tax evasion.
Steven Cheung, the communications director for President-elect Donald Trump, criticized the Democrat-controlled Department of Justice and other radical prosecutors for their alleged misuse of the justice system. "The failed witch hunts against President Trump have proved that the Democrat-controlled DOJ [Department of Justice] and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system," Cheung stated.

Meanwhile, Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan hinted on X, the former Twitter, that Hunter may be summoned to provide evidence as Republicans contemplate whether to impeach President Biden for his business dealings with his son. "Democrats said there was nothing to our impeachment inquiry. If that's the case, why did Joe Biden just issue Hunter Biden a pardon for the very things we were inquiring about?" Jordan questioned on Sunday.

Adams further elaborated on X that Hunter can no longer refuse to answer questions before Congress. The Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects individuals from having to answer questions before Congress if it could aid a prosecution case against them or force them to make self-incriminating statements. However, with Hunter now absolved of all his criminal cases, he cannot invoke the Fifth Amendment to refuse to answer questions. "The upside to Joe Biden's pardon is that Hunter Biden no longer enjoys the right to assert his 5th Amendment Right against self-incrimination and contempt of Congress is also a crime," Adams noted.

Hunter's refusal to appear before Congress or to answer questions if he does appear before a Congressional panel could lead to prosecution and potential imprisonment. Conservative author Jack Posobiec echoed this sentiment on X, asking, "Does this mean Hunter Biden just lost his 5th amendment right to refuse to testify on actions from 2014-2024? Asking for a friend."

Hunter was scheduled for sentencing on December 12 for a gun case in Delaware, and on December 16 for his tax evasion case in California. Despite President Biden's previous assertions that he would not pardon his son and that the justice system should run its course, he stated on Sunday that his son was "selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted," and treated differently from others who commit similar crimes.

Former President Trump criticized the pardon on his social media site, Truth Social, and linked it to the imprisonment of the January 6, 2021 Capitol rioters. Trump, who has repeatedly pledged at campaign rallies to pardon the rioters upon his inauguration, questioned, "Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years?" This development raises questions about the potential implications of the pardon and the future course of the investigation into Hunter's business interests.
