In a recent announcement, President-elect Donald Trump has named his long-time aide, Kash Patel, as his choice for the next director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

This decision has been met with optimism by those who believe the bureau is in need of a thorough overhaul.

Patel, who served at high levels in the first Trump administration, is not a newcomer to the political scene. However, his fresh perspective could be the key to addressing the alleged abuses of the FBI, which some critics argue has become more of an adversary than an ally to liberty and freedom.

One of the main concerns raised by critics is the FBI's alleged targeting of Catholics. According to David Marcus, the author of the opinion editorial published by Fox News, the FBI has been keeping a close eye on traditional Catholics due to their potential proximity to extremism. Marcus, a Catholic himself, argues that an FBI that refrains from spying on churches would be a significant improvement.

This sentiment was echoed by Sen. Josh Hawley during a questioning session with current FBI director Christopher Wray last year. Hawley criticized the FBI for what he described as "outrageous targeting" of traditionalist Catholics.

The Durham Report, a special counsel investigation, also found that the FBI had failed to uphold its mission of strict fidelity to the law. This, according to Marcus, is the crux of the issue.

Marcus also highlighted the controversial raid on Mar-A-Lago, during which Melania Trump's underwear drawer was searched and evidence was publicly displayed. He contrasted this with the treatment of President Joe Biden's classified documents, which were not subjected to the same level of scrutiny.

Marcus believes that Patel can bring fairness, honesty, and impartiality to the FBI. He suggests that Patel's appointment could be a threat to the FBI establishment and leadership, who may be unaccustomed to having their actions questioned.

Patel's role as FBI director, according to Marcus, should not be to target enemies, but to remove the target from friends and the general public. He argues that Patel's record suggests he will use his power sparingly and judiciously, focusing on punishing crimes rather than thoughts.

Marcus concludes by expressing his belief that Patel's appointment could lead to a more fair and free execution of the law, which could in turn help the nation on its path to healing.
