In the wake of President-elect Donald Trump's victory, a number of liberal women are reportedly choosing sterilization, fearing a potential loss of abortion rights, as reported by Newsweek.

The publication has spoken to five women who are so apprehensive about the possible restriction of their reproductive rights that they are opting for surgical removal of their fallopian tubes.

According to Gateway Pundit, these women are making drastic decisions in response to the election outcome. Lydia Echols, a 28-year-old Texas resident, expressed her determination to Newsweek, stating, “If I am to be denied any rights in the next four (or more) years, I will not give them up without a fight.”

A 39-year-old woman from Washington, who wished to remain unnamed, revealed that she had already undergone a bilateral salpingectomy, a procedure that removes the fallopian tubes, as a reaction to Trump's win. She expressed her discontent, saying, “I am not happy that I felt forced into a surgery I did not want to alter my body, I feel like the election tied my hands and forced me to be sterilized—that is horrible.” She further criticized Trump's previous term and his close associates, who she believes view women as "incubators and possessions to subjugate."

She had scheduled the surgery in October, intending to cancel it if Kamala Harris had won the election. Her husband had already undergone a vasectomy in 2021. However, Trump's victory led her to believe that she had no other option but to proceed with the surgery to protect her health in case of assault, a failure of her husband's vasectomy, or inaccessibility to hormonal birth control.

Morgan Wood, a 24-year-old resident of Georgia, shared her uncertainty about Trump's future policies with Newsweek. She has scheduled a consultation for sterilization on December 5, stating, “I have no idea what Trump will and won’t follow through on. I was already upset when Roe v Wade was overturned. Living in the South, our prospects for protections and resources aren’t great if they aren’t otherwise ensured.”

Ashley Hedden, a 36-year-old Kentucky resident who identifies as asexual, told Newsweek that she wants to be sterilized as a precaution against potential sexual assault. She expressed her fear of being denied medical care due to her potential to become pregnant.

Eden Ixora, a 25-year-old Florida resident, decided to get sterilized in response to a viral joke made by podcaster Nick Fuentes. She told Newsweek, “All the political noise is what really finalized my decision for me. It wasn’t just Trump winning but rather all the online rhetoric that followed.”

Despite these fears, Trump has stated that he does not support a national abortion ban. He wrote on Truth Social last month, “I would not support a federal abortion ban, under any circumstances, and would, in fact, veto it, because it is up to the states to decide based on the will of their voters (the will of the people!)”

These women's decisions reflect the deep-seated fears and anxieties that the political climate can instigate. As the nation awaits the inauguration of President-elect Trump, it remains to be seen how his administration will address these concerns and navigate the contentious issue of reproductive rights.
