Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat, has voiced doubts over President-elect Donald Trump's proposed large-scale deportations, suggesting that the necessity of "migrant workers" in American farms will cause him to renege on his promises.

According to The Post Millennial, during a conversation with MSNBC, Crockett outlined her forecast that the Republican party will abandon their deportation plans once they consider the economic consequences. She pointed out that the agricultural sector heavily depends on the labor of migrants.

"I don’t expect mass deportations,” Crockett stated. “When we start to ramp up what the cost will look like for us to actually effectuate this, but then actually look at the cost to our economy, I just don’t really see it happening.”

Crockett, who is a member of the agriculture committee, emphasized the crucial role of migrant workers in farming. "As someone who serves on the agriculture committee, I can tell you that I have talked to countless farmers that talk about the need for these migrant workers,” she said. “So, listen, unless your viewers are planning to send their kids to school so that they can go and work on the farms, then God bless… but the reality is that is not who’s been working the farms in recent years.”

She further argued that mass deportations would negatively affect the nation's economy, given the significant number of migrants employed in sectors such as hospitality and restaurants.

Trump, on the other hand, has consistently promised to carry out mass deportations of individuals residing illegally in the US, particularly those involved in criminal activities. This sentiment has been echoed by Vice President-elect JD Vance, underscoring concerns for public safety.

Earlier this year, a report from the Department of Homeland Security revealed that over 600,000 illegal immigrants with criminal convictions or pending charges entered the country under the Biden administration. These convictions encompassed violent crimes like murder and sexual assault.

Trump's electoral triumph, coupled with polling data indicating broad support for stricter immigration enforcement, implies that his administration might adopt a more assertive approach, potentially gaining the approval of a majority of Americans. This remains to be seen, as the economic implications of such actions are weighed against the need for public safety and law enforcement.
