In a recent announcement, President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Charles Kushner, a renowned real estate developer and father to Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, for the role of U.S. ambassador to France.

The news was shared on Trump's Truth Social platform, where Kushner was lauded as an exceptional business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker.

According to Newsweek, Trump's statement on the platform read, "I am pleased to nominate Charles Kushner, of New Jersey, to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to France. He is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker, who will be a strong advocate representing our Country & its interests. Together, we will strengthen America's partnership with France, our oldest Ally, & one of our greatest!"

Charles Kushner is the founder of Kushner Companies, a real estate firm reportedly valued at $2.9 billion. His son, Jared Kushner, was a senior adviser during Trump's first term and is married to Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of the President-elect. However, Jared has expressed his intention to focus on his private equity firm, ruling out a role in the upcoming administration.

The nomination of Charles Kushner is not without controversy. In 2020, Trump pardoned Charles, who had been sentenced to two years in prison in 2005 after pleading guilty to 18 counts, including tax evasion and witness tampering. The case revolved around Charles' retaliation against his brother-in-law for cooperating with federal investigators, involving a scheme to intimidate him with a secretly recorded video of a compromising situation.

The case was prosecuted by Chris Christie, a former U.S. attorney for New Jersey and later governor of the state and Republican presidential candidate. Christie, who ran against Trump in the 2016 and 2024 Republican primaries, described Charles' actions as "one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes that I prosecuted when I was U.S. attorney." He also claimed in a 2019 book that his dismissal from Trump's transition team was due to Jared's resentment over his father's prosecution.

Trump's selection of Charles Kushner follows a series of controversial nominations for his upcoming administration, including former Representative Matt Gaetz, former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, billionaire Elon Musk, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. All these individuals have been embroiled in controversies, including allegations of sexual assault. While Gaetz has withdrawn his nomination and all the accused have denied the allegations, concerns persist over Trump's key Cabinet appointments.

Despite the controversies surrounding his nominations, President-elect Trump remains steadfast in his choices, emphasizing their business acumen and leadership skills. As the nation anticipates the upcoming administration, the focus remains on how these individuals, if confirmed, will uphold American interests and strengthen its partnerships, particularly with longstanding allies like France.
