Trump recently issued a stern warning to Canada and Mexico, threatening to impose a 25 percent tariff unless they take more decisive action to safeguard the U.S. border. He expressed his concerns via Truth Social, stating, “This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this invasion of our Country!”
In his post, Trump highlighted the influx of individuals from Mexico and Canada, accusing them of bringing crime and drugs into the U.S. at unprecedented levels. He wrote, “On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders.” He further demanded that both countries utilize their power to resolve this long-standing issue, warning of a hefty price if they fail to do so.

The majority of the “known or suspected” terrorists from Canada are intercepted at legal ports of entry. In the last fiscal year, 358 individuals on the terror watchlist were stopped at a Canadian border crossing, compared to 52 stopped at a Mexican border crossing. This data underscores the need for a comprehensive review of border security measures, particularly at the northern border, to ensure the safety and security of the United States.
