A recent report has raised concerns over the Biden-Harris administration's Department of Education, alleging that it disproportionately targets Christian universities and career schools.

The American Principles Project (APP) report reveals that these faith-based institutions, which represent less than 10 percent of the US student population, have been the subject of 70 percent of the department's enforcement actions.

According to The Post Millennial, the APP report states that "at least 12 Christian colleges have been the target of excessive penalties or banned from receiving federal student aid." In contrast, no Ivy League school has faced punitive action from the Office of Enforcement. The report highlights Grand Canyon University (GCU) and Liberty University (LU) as among the most heavily targeted institutions.

The report further reveals a stark discrepancy in the fines levied against Christian schools for Clery Act violations. "The average fine against a Christian school for a Clery Act violation was $815,000, compared to $228,571 against public and private institutions," the report states.

Jon Schweppe, APP's policy director, has accused the Democrats under Biden of "weaponizing every part of the federal government to target their opponents." Schweppe told Fox News, "As our report details, the Biden-Harris Department of Education has been engaged in a long-running scheme to punish Christian colleges that are ideologically opposed to the left's agenda. The unfair targeting of these institutions has been egregious, and it needs to stop immediately."

The report also notes that GCU and LU received record fines, amounting to more than "all penalties imposed over the past seven years combined." In November 2023, the Department of Education fined GCU $37.7 million for allegedly misleading students about the cost of its doctoral programs. The university, based in Arizona, has since filed an appeal.

Despite the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals reversing the Education Department's rejection of GCU's nonprofit status, the department maintains that a "school's religious affiliation or non-profit status has absolutely no bearing on our oversight and enforcement actions." This statement, however, seems to contradict the evidence presented in the APP report, raising questions about the department's impartiality.
