As the end of President Joe Biden's term approaches, his administration is reportedly encouraging Ukraine to lower its conscription age from 25 to 18.

This move is seen as a strategy to bolster Ukraine's military forces in its ongoing conflict with Russia.

According to Gateway Pundit, the Biden administration has been actively involved in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, authorizing NATO-supplied long-range missile strikes within Russian territory, discussing the deployment of anti-personnel landmines, and seeking additional funding to support Kiev.

A senior official from the Biden administration, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying, "The outgoing administration wants Ukraine to lower the conscription age to help expand its pool of fighting-age men as the war approaches its fourth year."

The Daily Mail's report, however, has been criticized for allegedly presenting inaccurate data from Kiev. The report suggests that Russia has suffered more casualties than Ukraine, a claim that has been disputed.

Contrary to the Daily Mail's report, it is claimed that Ukraine has lost 532,000 soldiers, including 8,500 officers, and has seen as many as 100,000 desertions. Meanwhile, Russian forces have reportedly lost a total of 78,329 soldiers, resulting in a casualty ratio of 6.7 Ukrainians for every Russian.

The Daily Mail did acknowledge that Russia's land forces have grown since the start of the conflict. The Biden administration has reportedly provided over $56 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the conflict began and is attempting to send additional aid before the end of Biden's term.

"The pure math of Ukraine's situation now is that it needs more troops in the fight to combat Russia's replenishing army. The need right now is manpower," the anonymous Biden official told reporters. "The Russians are making steady progress in the east, and they are beginning to push back Ukrainian lines in Kursk... Mobilization and more manpower could make a significant difference at this time as we look at the battlefield today."

The report also mentioned that U.S. officials are urging Ukraine to take stringent action against soldiers who desert or go absent without leave.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reportedly been receiving feedback from allies in other Western capitals that Ukraine's issue lies more with troop levels than with arms. In response, Ukraine has taken steps to broaden the pool of draft-eligible men, but these efforts are seen as insufficient against the larger Russian military.

In April, Ukraine lowered the draft age for men from 27 to 25 and removed most draft exemptions. However, there are concerns among Ukrainians that further lowering the minimum conscription age and removing more young adults from the workforce could negatively impact the already war-torn economy.
