A staff member at the renowned Fairmont Hotel was apprehended for bringing a loaded firearm to work during Vice President Kamala Harris's stay at the establishment.

The San Francisco police verified that the loaded firearm was detected on Tuesday morning by magnetometers set up by the Secret Service.

As reported by Gateway Pundit, the individual, a recent immigrant from Texas, argued that he was used to carrying a concealed firearm, a right granted in Texas but heavily curtailed by California's intricate web of anti-Second Amendment regulations. In California, concealed carry is permissible only with a Concealed Carry Weapons License (CCWL), which is issued by the county sheriff's office or local police station.

Following the Supreme Court's ruling on NYSRPA v. Bruen on June 23, 2022, the state operates under a "shall issue" policy, meaning licenses must be issued when conditions are met. The open carry of loaded firearms is generally banned throughout California, except in specific circumstances such as within counties with populations under 200,000, where a special license can be issued.

The California Penal Code Section 25850 PC outlines penalties for carrying a loaded firearm in public without a permit, categorizing it as a misdemeanor or felony depending on prior offenses and the intent to commit a crime. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered that the employee had an active arrest warrant from Tarrant County, Texas, for undisclosed charges.

Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff left the Fairmont Tuesday afternoon without any issues. The Secret Service later clarified that Harris was never in direct danger and that the firearm was not intended to harm her, according to ABC News.

Harris, whose approval ratings have taken a nosedive following her unsuccessful presidential campaign, was in the Bay Area for reasons that remain unclear. This incident underscores the complexity of gun laws across different states and the potential risks they pose to public figures.
