In a recent episode of The View, the panelists engaged in a heated discussion about the potential pardon of President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden.

The conversation took place amidst the festive atmosphere of a Thanksgiving-themed episode, which was kicked off with a culinary treat from renowned chef Bobby Flay. However, the jovial mood quickly shifted as the panelists delved into the serious topic of Hunter Biden's legal troubles.

According to The Decider, the debate centered around whether President Biden should pardon his son before his term ends in January. Hunter Biden was convicted in June on three felonies related to a gun purchase in 2018. In September, he pleaded guilty to tax offenses, admitting to evading over $1 million in income taxes between 2016 and 2019.

Panelist Sunny Hostin strongly advocated for the presidential pardon, arguing that Hunter Biden's indictment was primarily due to his family's prominence. "One of the issues that I have is, when you look at the charges that Hunter Biden was indicted on, less than .09% of the population is indicted on that charge," she stated, referring to the gun charges. "And so it’s basically close to zero. So I actually think that the only reason he was indicted is because his last name is Biden.”

Hostin's argument was met with applause from the audience. She further argued that Hunter Biden's struggle with addiction should be taken into account. "Hunter Biden has acknowledged his addiction. He is an addict. And in the law there are all sorts of ways to handle people who commit crimes because of their addiction,” she said. Hunter Biden's addiction was publicly detailed during his June trial, and he has been sober since 2019, according to the Associated Press.

Sara Haines, another panelist, echoed Hostin's sentiments, suggesting that a pardon for Hunter would provide some relief for President Biden amidst his challenging term. Joy Behar, however, humorously suggested that another Biden family member, their dog Commander who bit Secret Service agents, should also receive a pardon. This suggestion was met with laughter from panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin, who chimed in, "Yeah, justice for Commander Biden! That I’m on board with.”

The debate on The View underscores the ongoing controversy surrounding Hunter Biden's legal issues and the potential for a presidential pardon. It also highlights the complexities of the legal system when dealing with individuals struggling with addiction. As the panelists' discussion demonstrated, these are issues that continue to provoke strong reactions and warrant further examination.
