This decision is backed by his Defense Secretary nominee, Pete Hegseth, who has expressed the belief that transgender soldiers are unfit for combat roles due to their reliance on cross-sex hormones.
As reported by The Post Millennial, this executive order could result in the medical discharge of approximately 15,000 active service personnel who identify as transgender on January 20. Furthermore, the order would prevent individuals who identify as transgender from enlisting in the military. This comes as a stark contrast to the current policy, which sees the U.S. Armed Forces funding sex change surgeries for soldiers.
This proposed ban is anticipated to be more extensive than a similar order issued during Trump's first term. While the previous order barred transgender individuals from joining the military, it allowed those already serving to continue their service. This order was later rescinded by President Joe Biden upon his assumption of office.
TRUMP TRANSITION: WHEN YOU LOSE ALL TRUST IN THE FBI, THIS HAPPENS...
The Pentagon has reported that around 2,200 service members were diagnosed with gender dysphoria in 2021. However, obtaining accurate figures on the number of transgender individuals in the military remains a challenge due to privacy rights. Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has argued that the cost of treating gender dysphoria and performing transgender surgeries is a luxury the Pentagon cannot afford.

Paulo Batista, a transgender analyst in the U.S. Navy, has voiced concerns over the potential impact of the ban and subsequent dismissals. Batista stated, "I have four years left on my contract. But you take 15,000 of us out — there’s more but that’s the number that is always mentioned — that’s 15,000 leadership positions, every one of us play a vital role. There are junior enlisted personnel to high-end officers. You pull one of us out, that means others have to cover. These jobs could take months or even years to fill."

Batista further argued that the cost of gender dysphoria treatment is negligible, stating, “There is no money being spent, it’s just continued care. People enlisting are just slightly hormone deficient, but the bigger picture is how many other people are going to be affected. Kicking out the 15,000 would affect the whole fleet, the whole battalion. It’s everyone.”
TRUMP RESPONDS TO BIDEN'S DECISION TO PARDON HUNTER—IN TRUE TRUMP FASHION!
Republicans, including Hegseth, have previously attributed the military's recruitment challenges to an overemphasis on "wokeness," arguing that potential candidates are deterred by a military that appears more focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion than on protecting the U.S.. This proposed ban, therefore, could be seen as a move to restore traditional values and focus within the military, aligning with conservative viewpoints. However, the potential impact on military personnel and operations remains a contentious issue.
