In a recent development, Representative Darrell Issa, a Republican from California, has expressed his concerns over the State Department's handling of employees distressed by the election of President-elect Trump.

Issa's concerns stem from reports that the department arranged therapy sessions for employees upset by the election results, a move he views as an inappropriate use of government resources.

According to The New York Post, Issa voiced his concerns in a letter addressed to Secretary of State Antony Blinken. He wrote, “I am concerned that the Department is catering to federal employees who are personally devastated by the normal functioning of American democracy through the provision of government-funded mental health counseling because Kamala Harris was not elected President of the United States.”

These allegations follow a report by the Free Beacon, which detailed two therapy sessions allegedly held by the State Department following Trump's victory. The report, citing unnamed sources, described one such session as an information "cry session."

The State Department reportedly sent an email to its employees, promoting a separate "insightful webinar where we delve into effective stress management techniques to help you navigate these challenging times" in the aftermath of Trump's victory. The email read, “Change is a constant in our lives, but it can often bring about stress and uncertainty. Join us for an insightful webinar where we delve into effective stress management techniques to help you navigate these challenging times. This session will provide tips and practical strategies for managing stress and maintaining your well being.”

In his correspondence with Blinken, Issa described the reported sessions as "disturbing," arguing that "nonpartisan government officials" should not experience a "personal meltdown over the result of a free and fair election." While Issa acknowledged the importance of mental health among the agency's employees, he questioned the use of taxpayer dollars to counsel those upset about the election. He demanded information on the number of sessions conducted, future plans, and the cost to the department.

Issa's concerns extend beyond the financial implications. He fears that these sessions could indicate a lack of willingness among some State Department employees to implement Trump's new vision for the agency. He wrote, “The mere fact that the Department is hosting these sessions raises significant questions about the willingness of its personnel to implement the lawful policy priorities that the American people elected President Trump to pursue and implement.”

Issa further argued that if foreign service officers cannot align with the American people's preferences, they should consider resigning and seeking a political appointment in the next Democrat administration.

The State Department has yet to respond to these allegations, leaving unanswered questions about the extent of these therapy sessions and their impact on the department's operations and budget.
