The festive season in America may be marred by a scarcity of eggs, a staple in many holiday recipes, due to the dual impact of avian influenza outbreaks and economic factors.

According to CBS News, egg shortages have been reported in various stores nationwide, with businesses in states mandating cage-free eggs being particularly affected. The Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has hit these businesses hard. "More than 40% of the nation’s roughly 300 million egg-laying hens are raised in cage-free facilities, but roughly 60% of ‘bird flu’ cases recently detected involved cage-free farms," the report highlighted. Recent outbreaks have been reported in Utah, Oregon, California, and Washington, as per Emily Metz, the chief executive and president of the American Egg Board.

Metz further disclosed that the reports of shortages are emerging from grocery stores such as Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. The virus-related shortages have led to a surge in egg prices, and experts forecast that the elevated cost may persist until 2025.

As reported by Breitbart News, Cal-Maine Foods, Inc., America's largest fresh egg producer, temporarily halted production at a Texas plant in April due to bird flu in its chickens. "An estimated 1.6 million laying hens and 337,000 pullets were destroyed after being infected with avian influenza at the facility in Parmer County, Texas," the article stated.

It's worth noting that the price of eggs has soared by 147 percent since President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris assumed office, as reported by Breitbart News in August. This economic reality continues to burden Americans under the Biden-Harris administration, despite the White House's denial of the issue. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre's claim in June that grocery prices had decreased under Biden's leadership was categorically refuted, as Americans grapple with the worst food inflation in nearly half a century.

In October, Vice President-elect Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) criticized the administration's policies, stating, “Look at the prices here. Things are way too expensive, and they’re way too expensive because of Kamala Harris’ policies.” He further added, “Eggs, when Kamala Harris took office, were short of $1.50 a dozen. Now, a dozen eggs will cost you around $4, thanks to Kamala Harris’ inflationary policies.” This situation underscores the economic challenges faced by Americans under the current administration, particularly during this holiday season.
