This move comes as part of a broader plan to overturn several Biden administration policies that focus on DEI initiatives, placing numerous defense contractors under close examination.

As reported by The Washington Examiner, President-elect Donald Trump is expected to bring about significant changes to the defense industry upon assuming office. This shift in power could spell the end for diversity programs within the Pentagon and the broader defense industry.

"Under the Trump administration, extreme and divisive DEI initiatives across the Pentagon and government agencies will come to an end," Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) told The Washington Examiner. "Taxpayer dollars should strengthen our military and national security — not fund radical agendas that distract and divide us. America’s defense industries must focus on protecting our nation and ensuring we lead with strength and unity on the world stage.”

The Republican party has long aimed to suppress DEI initiatives within the defense sector, but their efforts have been thwarted over the past four years due to Democratic control of the White House and Senate. However, the GOP's majority in the House has allowed them to pass bills indicating their intent to dismantle DEI programs, as demonstrated by the House's version of the National Defense Authorization Act passed earlier this year.

“The American people spoke loud and clear when they elected President Trump and Republican majorities: they are sick of the Left’s obsession with DEI,” Sen.-elect Jim Banks (R-IN) told The Washington Examiner. “Taxpayers should not subsidize this radical woke agenda, and President Trump will put a stop to it.”

The Republican party is already gearing up for a substantial defense overhaul under the Trump administration, a move seemingly confirmed by Trump's nomination of Pete Hegseth as the next secretary of defense. Hegseth, known for his criticism of diversity within the military, has referred to it as the “dumbest phrase on planet earth.”

“President Trump is putting together a stellar Cabinet that is focused on America First and helping all Americans,” Kimberly Guilfoyle, fiancée to Donald Trump Jr. and who worked on Trump’s 2020 campaign, told The Washington Examiner. “Companies pushing woke policies like DEI are in for a rude awakening.”

According to GOP sources close to the president-elect's team and the Senate, Lockheed Martin is likely to be among the defense contractors scrutinized in the forthcoming Trump era. The company's DEI policies, including a controversial training program reported by Fox News, have drawn criticism from conservative circles.

“Lockheed Martin has been the poster child for DEI,” one source close to the Trump transition said. “I imagine the Trump administration will give them increased scrutiny for embracing the left. It could harm Lockheed’s ability to navigate this new Washington.”

However, Lockheed Martin has previously aligned itself with Trump, having worked closely with his administration and benefitted from many of his policies. “As we did in his first term, we look forward to a strong working relationship with President Trump, his team, and also with the new Congress to strengthen our national defense,” a spokesperson for Lockheed Martin told The Washington Examiner.

Other defense contractors, including RTX Corporation, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman Corporation, may also face scrutiny due to their public DEI programs. Boeing has reportedly dismantled its diversity department, but it remains to be seen how these companies will navigate the impending changes under the Trump administration.

While the future of DEI initiatives in the defense industry remains uncertain, it is clear that the forthcoming Trump administration and Republican-majority Congress are prepared to take a firm stance against what they perceive as 'radical woke agendas.' As the nation awaits the inauguration of President-elect Trump, the defense industry braces for a significant shift in policy and practice.
