Almost three decades after the brutal murder of child beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey, her father, John Ramsey, has broken his silence.

He believes that the mystery surrounding his daughter's death could be unraveled if the Boulder Police Department collaborates with external agencies.

According to The New York Post, the 80-year-old father expressed his disappointment with the Boulder Police Department during a recent interview with "Today". "There have been horrible failures," he admitted. "But I believe it can be solved if police accept help from outside their system. That’s been their flaw." He further criticized the department's leadership and their refusal to accept assistance from experienced individuals. "The fellow who investigated our case was an auto theft investigator before our case. I never criticized them for not having experience — I criticized them for refusing help from people who did. And it was offered."

The murder of JonBenét Ramsey has baffled investigators since the wee hours of December 26, 1996. The six-year-old beauty queen was reported missing from her expansive Boulder, Colorado, residence. Later that day, her father discovered her lifeless body in the basement of their home. She had a garrote around her neck, and her skull was fractured from an apparent blow to the back of her head.

In the immediate aftermath of the murder, the police's attention was drawn to JonBenét’s family: her father John; mother Patsy; and brother Burke. However, a DNA report released 15 days post the murder seemingly cleared them of suspicion. They were officially exonerated in 2008 by the then-district attorney. Despite the passage of 28 years, no one has been held responsible for JonBenét's murder.

In December of last year, the city of Boulder issued a statement claiming that a multi-agency task force was investigating the homicide. They expressed hope that advancements in technology would aid in resolving the case. "Recently, the Boulder Police Department (BPD) convened a panel of outside experts (Colorado Cold Case Review Team) to review the JonBenét Ramsey homicide investigation," the statement read. "The purpose of the review was to generate additional investigative recommendations and determine if updated technologies and/or forensic testing might produce new intelligence or leads to solve the case."

The task force included the FBI, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Boulder Police Department, the Boulder District Attorney’s Office, the Colorado Department of Public Safety, and Colorado’s Bureau of Investigation. Despite the promising announcement, the case remains unsolved, leaving the Ramsey family frustrated and urging the Boulder Police Department to do more.

John Ramsey expressed his hope that the new police chief, an outsider, would be more open to accepting external assistance. "They need to accept the help that’s offered to them," he urged. "There’s a new police chief brought in from the outside. I hope he accepts help, so this can be solved." The mystery of JonBenét's murder continues to hang over Boulder, a grim reminder of a case that has yet to find closure.
