In a recent opinion editorial published by Conservative Daily News, Doug Truax, a conservative commentator, voiced his concerns about the integrity of America's election system.

Despite President-elect Donald Trump's near landslide victory, Truax insists that the system remains flawed and urgently needs fixing.

Truax argues that the flaws in the election system are most apparent when the margins are extremely tight, as was the case in the 2020 election. He asserts that the public still lacks confidence in the integrity of the elections, which he describes as "only partially transparent." He warns that the tools to cheat are still available and could potentially plunge America into chaos in a future close election.

The commentator identifies several issues with the current system, including extended voting periods, mass absentee ballots, lack of voter ID, weak signature verification, unsecured drop boxes, voting machines with opaque software and internet connectivity, and inaccurate voter rolls. He questions why such "third-world standards" are acceptable in the context of voting when they would not be tolerated in personal banking or accounting practices.

Truax acknowledges that the Constitution entrusts election administration to the states, but criticizes the inconsistency in how different states handle the process. He praises Florida for its efficient system, which counts all votes on Election Day and posts ballot movement online in real-time. However, he criticizes Arizona for its "bizarre process" that takes days to count the ballots, leading to public distrust even in the absence of fraud.

The conservative commentator urges the incoming Trump administration to prioritize election integrity through federal legislation or by persuading states to pass reforms. He suggests that standards such as voter ID, accurate and transparent voter rolls, and shortened voting periods should be publicly emphasized and perhaps incentivized by the federal government.

Truax warns that the country is at a crossroads, with more people using absentee ballots and becoming accustomed to them. He cites the Commission on Federal Election Reform, which concluded in 2005 that mass absentee ballots invite voter fraud. He argues that, like money or other valuables, votes will be stolen if strict guardrails and safeguards are not in place.

Truax concludes by calling for action to close the "gaping security holes" in the election system. He believes that this will allow for more time to debate the issues rather than paying hundreds of lawyers. He asserts that the country deserves a great election system and that it is within our power to make it happen in 2025.
