Denver's Democrat Mayor, Mike Johnston, has openly challenged President Trump's immigration enforcement efforts.

The Mayor has vowed to use every resource at his disposal, including city police and local volunteers, to obstruct the deportation of illegal immigrants, even those with potential ties to criminal gangs.

According to Gateway Pundit, Mayor Johnston has been unapologetic in his stance, expressing his intention to transform Denver into a stronghold against immigration enforcement. He frames his actions as a moral crusade, rooted in the city's core values. "We won’t change that, because those are one of our core values," Johnston stated. "We’re not going to sell out those values to anyone. We’re not going to be bullied into changing them."

Johnston further emphasized his commitment to maintaining Denver as a welcoming city. "I think we are gonna continue to be a welcoming, open, big-hearted city that’s gonna stand by our values," he added. His approach, which includes mobilizing Denver's police force and citizens to hinder federal operations, has drawn parallels to the controversial sanctuary cities.

The Mayor has even suggested that Denver residents would form a human barricade against federal authorities, reminiscent of the infamous Tiananmen Square protests. "More than us having [Denver Police] stationed at the county line to keep them out, you would have 50,000 Denverites there," Johnston boasted. "It’s like the Tiananmen Square moment with the rose and the gun, right? You’d have every one of those Highland moms who came out for the migrants. And you do not want to mess with them.”

Johnston further speculated that any federal attempt to enforce immigration law in Denver would necessitate an "invasion" of Colorado by out-of-state National Guard units. "Unless they were planning on bringing national guards mobilized from Texas or Alabama to come invade Colorado, I don’t know where they would find the forces to begin to do that," he said. "And that seems to me like a very, very bad idea from start to finish that no reasonable American would support."

However, Johnston's defiance could lead to serious consequences. Mike Davis, the founder and president of the Article III Project (A3P), an organization focused on judicial matters, highlighted that Johnston could face charges for conspiracy, obstruction, assaulting federal officers, and numerous other serious federal felonies.

President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for “border czar,” Tom Homan, has shown little patience for the bluster of Democrat politicians. In response to Illinois Governor JB Pritzker's pledge to keep Illinois a sanctuary for illegal immigrants, Homan responded, “Game on. We’ve got no problem going through him.”

Homan further emphasized the commitment of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to enforce immigration laws. "I’ve got 20,000 men and women in ICE who are going to do their job with no apology. Congress has enacted a law that protects this country. People need to understand… entering this country illegally is a crime," he said. "Every illegal alien in this country committed a crime to get here. So they’re all criminals."

Homan concluded with a stern warning to any governor who attempts to obstruct immigration enforcement. "We’re gonna enforce the law without apology… and if any governor wants to stand in the way, go ahead and do it. We’ll see what happens. We’re not gonna be intimidated."
