The dispute arose when Goldberg suggested that her birthday order was nearly thwarted due to the bakery's alleged disapproval of her left-leaning political views. However, she did not address the issue during Monday's episode of "The View."
According to Fox News, the disagreement began when Goldberg and her co-hosts celebrated her 69th birthday with Charlotte Russe desserts, a classic New York delicacy. Goldberg informed the audience that her birthday order was nearly cancelled due to what she perceived as the bakery's opposition to her political beliefs. "They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway, which is why I’m not telling you who made them," Goldberg stated. She further insinuated that the bakery might have refused the order because "they did not like my politics."
The bakery in question was later identified as Holtermann’s Bakery, a 145-year-old family-owned establishment on Staten Island. This identification was made possible by examining the Charlotte Russe desserts themselves. Jill Holtermann, the bakery owner, refuted Goldberg’s account of the events, clarifying that the bakery’s issues were not politically driven but were due to mechanical problems with their boilers. "I said to Whoopi, ‘I can’t do it right now'," Holtermann explained. "We have so many things going on with my boiler."

Despite the initial complications, the bakery did fulfill the order, and the co-hosts were seen enjoying the desserts live on air. Holtermann, alongside Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella, held a press conference to shed light on the situation. Fossella defended the bakery's reputation, stating, "It's been here 145 years. They had a boiler that was 60 or 70 years old. And the first week in November, guess what? It went on the fritz." He added, "And the person who besmirched, defamed them, took that as an insult to her. Well, get over it. This family will be here for, God willing, another 145 years."

Goldberg, however, seemed to stand by her initial suggestion in a follow-up video posted on Friday. "It does seem a little odd that when we called a few weeks before my birthday, and we were told they couldn’t process the order for my birthday because of an equipment failure," Goldberg said. "But somehow they were able to accept an order of a different 48 of the same dessert when somebody else called without using my name."

"The View" has yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter. This incident underscores the potential for political beliefs to influence everyday interactions, even in seemingly innocuous situations such as ordering a birthday dessert. It also highlights the importance of clear communication and understanding in avoiding unnecessary conflicts.
