In a recent episode of "The View," co-host Sunny Hostin questioned New York City's Democratic Mayor Eric Adams about his alleged affinity for President-elect Donald Trump.

This inquiry was prompted by speculation that Adams might be seeking legal assistance from Trump concerning the charges currently leveled against him.

According to the Daily Caller, Adams was indicted by federal prosecutors from the Southern District of New York in September on five counts of bribery and fraud. The charges allege that Adams accepted "improper valuable benefits" from affluent foreign businesspeople and at least one Turkish government official over a span of nearly ten years. Hostin asked Adams to address the accusations that his apparent support for Trump might be a strategic move to have the charges dropped or secure a pardon if found guilty.

Hostin asked, “But critics are suggesting that you have recently embraced Trump, perhaps because you want either the charges dropped or perhaps a pardon from President-elect Trump. What’s your response to those critics?”

Adams responded, “You know, I think nothing is more challenging than not being able to defend yourself in public … I said it over and over again, I did nothing wrong. I spent 40 years of my life, 22 of them as a police officer, protecting the children and families of the city. I’m consistent of that, I’ve lived my life the way I expect everyday New Yorkers are supposed to live their life."

Adams further clarified his position, stating, “I have a legal team, they’re going to manage that case. My job is to do what I’ve done since January 1, 2022, make sure crime goes down in this city, record number of housing that’s built in this city, turn around our economy and make sure as you leave this place that you can enjoy the safety of this city. That’s my job, I’ve lived up to that. And the challenges that we face in life, can you continue to do that job that you were elected to do? And the numbers are clear, I’m doing that every day.”

The indictment against Adams, spanning 57 pages, alleges that he violated the law by accepting illegal campaign contributions through straw donations during his 2021 mayoral campaign. It is claimed that a Turkish official, who allegedly made a straw donation to Adams' campaign, provided the mayor with free or discounted travel on a Turkish airline to various international destinations. In return, Adams supposedly agreed to establish a diplomatic outpost for Turkey in the city.

Adams has also drawn criticism from fellow Democrats in New York for his comments about Trump. He expressed his displeasure at members of his own party labeling Trump a "fascist" and comparing him to Adolf Hitler, the former Nazi leader. Adams urged the American public to "tone down the rhetoric" in the lead-up to the 2024 election and to strive for national unity.

Adams stated in late October, “I speak to my mayors across the country, and they talk about these real problems we’re having. And with all that’s going on to everyday New Yorkers, we’re asking questions that, ‘Is someone a fascist?’ or ‘Is someone a Hitler?’ That’s insulting to me. That is insulting. I’m not going to engage in that. Everyone needs to turn down the rhetoric. Because after Election Day, we still have to be the United States and not the divided states.”

Trump acknowledged Adams' comments during his large-scale rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City on October 27. He praised the mayor as "really great" and acknowledged the difficulties Adams has faced due to his legal issues. As the story unfolds, it remains to be seen how Adams' legal troubles and his stance towards Trump will impact his political career and the city he serves.
