The recent rightward shift in American politics, the most significant since Ronald Reagan's presidency in 1980, has left Democrats and their media allies scrambling to understand their missteps.

The GOP, however, is relishing their lack of comprehension.

The primary misunderstanding lies in the Democrats' inability to recognize the popularity of Donald Trump among tens of millions of Americans. Their disdain for the former president, often referred to as Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) by Republicans, blinds them to the fact that Trump is not just tolerated, but genuinely liked by many. Before delving into the reasons for this affection, it's worth examining the internal turmoil and finger-pointing currently plaguing the Democratic party.

As reported by Fox News, numerous Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi, have criticized Joe Biden for not stepping aside earlier. Some have even suggested that Kamala Harris's campaign, despite its billion-dollar budget, was poorly executed, evidenced by her refusal to appear on Joe Rogan's popular podcast. Trump's three-hour conversation with Rogan, watched by 47 million people, demonstrated the power of such platforms.

Bernie Sanders has also voiced his disappointment, accusing his party of neglecting its working-class roots. He stated, "It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working-class people would find that the working class has abandoned them." Indeed, when a party promises to spend billions on student loan forgiveness, yet only 34% of Americans are college graduates, it's unsurprising that many feel overlooked.

While these criticisms may hold some validity, it's remarkable that no Democrat has acknowledged the genuine appeal of Donald Trump as a contributing factor to his victory. Liberals, ensnared in their own narrative and groupthink, fail to recognize that Trump might be the kind of person many Americans would enjoy sharing a beer with.

More importantly, they fail to see that Trump may not embody the worst of our nation, but rather some of its best qualities: honesty, common sense, patriotism, humor, and authenticity.

Democrats frequently accuse Trump of dishonesty, meticulously fact-checking his every word and gesture. What they find, however, is a penchant for exaggeration and hyperbole, often delivered with a tongue-in-cheek humor that endears him to his supporters.

In contrast, Democrats have been responsible for some of the most significant falsehoods in our history. The claim that Joe Biden was fit to serve another four years was a consequential lie, spun by leading Democrats and the media. The left-wing media and Hillary Clinton's campaign also propagated the Russia hoax, while Democrats misrepresented Trump's comments about Charlottesville, veterans, and immigrants.

Even in the campaign's final days, Democrats twisted a joke from Trump's Madison Square Garden event into an accusation of racism. Supporters, however, saw through the dishonest portrayal.

Despite accusations of being anti-women, anti-gay, and anti-black, Trump has a record of appointing women to key positions, selecting the first openly gay cabinet member in our history, and implementing measures to support historically black colleges and black communities. These false charges have been dismissed by his supporters.

Trump's common sense is another quality that resonates with his supporters. The majority of adults agree that allowing biological men to compete in women's sports is absurd, and that permitting millions to enter the country illegally is outrageous. Even in liberal Southern California, voters agree that releasing criminals is dangerous. Trump was chosen to halt the progressive nonsense, and he will.

Liberals fail to understand that Trump's authenticity is part of his appeal. Polls showed that voters believed Trump meant what he said, a sentiment not shared for Kamala Harris.

Trump's sense of humor, often overlooked by the media and unappreciated by the left, is another aspect of his appeal. His appearances at McDonald's and his ride in a garbage truck during the campaign were seen as humorous and endearing, contradicting the left's portrayal of him as an authoritarian figure.

Lastly, Trump's patriotism is undeniable. Despite the Democrats' attempts to portray themselves as patriotic during their convention, their history of decrying the nation as "systemically racist" and defaming the country's founders undermined their credibility.

When Trump promises to Make America Great Again, the left scoffs. Voters, however, believe in him and have given him a mandate to try. This is the reality that Democrats and their media allies fail to comprehend, and it's a reality that the GOP is more than happy to capitalize on.
