In a recent revelation, Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence has unveiled information regarding the alleged arming of North Korean troops by Moscow.

The intelligence agency has reported that the Russian government has supplied thousands of North Korean soldiers stationed in Russia with a variety of weaponry and equipment.

As reported by The Business Insider, the arsenal provided to the North Korean troops includes 60mm mortars, AK-12 rifles, RPK/PKM machine guns, SVD/SVF sniper rifles, Phoenix anti-tank guided missiles, and RPG-7s. Additionally, the soldiers have been equipped with night vision gear, thermal imagers, collimator optical sights, and binoculars.

The weaponry supplied to the North Korean troops bears a striking resemblance to the standard equipment used by Russian infantry. The AK-12, a standard service assault rifle, and the SVD sniper rifle, also known as the "Dragunov," are both commonly used by Russian forces. The latter is a semiautomatic Russian infantry sniper rifle designed to engage enemy personnel and other unarmored targets at ranges up to 800 meters, as stated by the manufacturer, the Kalashnikov Group.

Earlier, Ukraine had released a video that seemed to depict North Korean soldiers being outfitted in Russian gear at a Russian military training compound. This recent revelation adds weight to the claims made in the video.

During a press conference last Thursday, US officials disclosed that approximately 8,000 North Korean soldiers were stationed in the Russian frontline region of Kursk and were anticipated to join the war within days. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed the belief that Russian forces had trained the North Korean soldiers in artillery, drone, and basic infantry operations.

Austin stated, "We've not yet seen these troops deploy into combat against Ukraine's forces, but we expect that these North Korean soldiers will join the fight against Ukraine in the coming days."

In response to this escalating situation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged Western allies to lift restrictions on long-range weaponry. This would enable Ukraine to potentially carry out preemptive strikes on the North Korean forces amassed in Russia. "We could strike preemptively, if we had the ability to do so, with a long-range strike," Zelenskyy said. "It depends on our partners." This plea underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for international cooperation to prevent further escalation.
