Timothy Murphy-Johnson, a 40-year-old British computer game designer, once gained internet fame as "America's kindest husband" for his heartwarming 15-point list of reasons he loved his wife, Molly.

However, the narrative has taken a dark turn as he is now suspected of her murder, following his life imprisonment for a horrifying crime against a teenager. Molly's family and friends are convinced that her death in 2017, initially believed to be a drug overdose, bears chilling similarities to the crime for which Murphy-Johnson was convicted.

According to The New York Post, Murphy-Johnson met Molly on the online dating site OK Cupid in 2012. Following her death, her loved ones began to question the nature of their relationship. Molly had reportedly confided in friends that her husband had sexually assaulted her and forced her into prostitution, painting a picture of a manipulative and abusive marriage. She also claimed that he had threatened to kill her with an overdose and make it look like a suicide, as stated in a court document obtained by the outlet.

"He threatened to kill me (and make it look like a suicide) … physically assaulted me by kicking my back/stomach, punching my head/arms, pushing me down and stealing my purse, money and phone to prevent me getting away," the court document read. Molly later withdrew the application.

Molly's childhood friend, Anna-Marie Anderson, expressed her belief that Murphy-Johnson had a hand in Molly's death. "I believe Tim either provided her with drugs or forced her to take them," Anderson told the outlet. "She was brilliant, extremely educated on medication and drugs, and in my opinion, she would not go out that way."

Molly's family and friends believe that Murphy-Johnson manipulated her into abandoning her academic pursuits and moving to San Francisco for his job. Her father, Bob Gelman, recalls his daughter asking him to "rescue her" from her husband on two occasions. "Molly was a bright, beautiful and talented young woman," Gelman told The Times of London.

The couple relocated to Los Angeles for Murphy-Johnson's new job, but Molly vanished after checking herself into a mental hospital to escape her husband. She was forced to leave her job when she could no longer hide her physical injuries. "Sadly Tim managed to sweet talk her into returning to him," Gelman said. "She told me he was pimping her out — having her have sex with other men for money."

Friends investigating Murphy-Johnson's abuse found sexually explicit images of Molly on several adult content websites, where she was advertised as an "escort," "naughty nerd," and "college-educated Mensa member." Molly documented her injuries and told friends she wanted a divorce but was threatened by her husband. "He [Murphy-Johnson] just offered me some drug that will kill me, so I can get it over with already …guess I'll just make it easier for us both," she wrote to a friend.

Molly was found dead in her bedroom on December 16, 2017, and her death was ruled an overdose. Murphy-Johnson announced her death on Facebook, blaming it on mental illness and a failed mental health service.

One of Molly's ex-boyfriends told her father that Murphy-Johnson attempted to have her cremated immediately but insisted on an autopsy. The report did not include a response from Murphy-Johnson or his lawyers.

However, a family member of Murphy-Johnson dismissed the allegations of his involvement in Molly's death as "baseless." The unidentified relative told the UK paper, "Molly had a serious drug addiction to fentanyl, as well as depression and a history of suicide attempts. Tim saved her life on more than one occasion … so I don't believe he killed her."

The relative described their relationship as chaotic, toxic, and tragic, with both parties suffering from deadly drug addictions and mental illness. "He did love her very much and her death is what led to him descending into madness. I can't make excuses for anything Tim has done. I believe he suffers from serious mental health issues," the relative said. They added that any evidence supporting the claim of Murphy-Johnson's involvement in Molly's death should be sent to the authorities.
