In a strategic move to counter the backlash from a recent controversial rally, Vice President Kamala Harris is set to share the stage with pop icon Jennifer Lopez in Las Vegas this Thursday.

The rally comes in the wake of a contentious event held by former President Donald Trump at Madison Square Garden, where comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's derogatory comments about Puerto Rico sparked widespread outrage.

According to Daily Mail, Lopez, whose parents hail from Puerto Rico, had previously shared a video with Harris outlining her plans for the island. This was just hours before Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage" at Trump's rally, a comment that has since ignited a wave of backlash and led to the mobilization of new advocates for Harris, including Lopez, Ricky Martin, and Bad Bunny.

Following the viral spread of Hinchcliffe's performance, Lopez reaffirmed her support for Harris via her Instagram story. The upcoming rally will see the two women sharing a stage in a state that Democrats fear is gradually leaning towards the Republicans. FiveThirtyEight.com reported on Tuesday that Trump has a 51 percent chance of winning Nevada, with Harris trailing slightly behind at 49 percent.

A recent CNN/SSRS poll revealed a neck-and-neck race in Nevada, with Trump securing 48 percent of the likely voters' support and Harris garnering 47 percent. The last time Nevada favored a Republican in a presidential race was in 2004. However, President Joe Biden only managed to win the state by a slim margin of 33,596 votes.

Hinchcliffe's remarks could potentially inflict significant damage on Trump's campaign, particularly in Pennsylvania, where nearly half a million Puerto Ricans reside. In Nevada, the Puerto Rican population is around 27,000. The comedian also made racially insensitive jokes about Latinos, which could further jeopardize Trump's chances in Nevada, a state where Latinos constitute 28.7 percent of the population, as per the 2020 census.

Hinchcliffe's comments at the MSG rally included, "These Latinos, they love making babies, too. Just know that they do," and "They don't do that. They come inside. Just like they did to our country." Despite Trump's stringent immigration policies and his pledge for the largest deportation of illegal immigrants in U.S. history, his campaign had been making progress with Latino voters.

The CNN poll in Nevada shows Harris with a slight edge over Trump among the Latino voting bloc, leading by just one point - 48 percent to 47 percent. However, with 42 percent of Nevada's likely voters stating in the CNN/SSRS poll that they have already cast their ballot in the 2024 race, time might be running out for the Democratic nominee.
