In a recent incident at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a group of anti-Israel students displayed a shocking lack of decorum during a talk by an Israeli guest professor, Shahar Kvatinsky.

The professor, who is currently serving at the University of Toronto in the electrical and computer engineering department, was invited by the MIT Israel Alliance to share his experiences as an IDF reservist officer in Gaza.

According to the New York Post, the event took an unexpected turn when a female student, in a bizarre act of defiance, silently walked up to the front, took four boxes of pizza, and briefly left the room before returning to the talk. The incident occurred as Kvatinsky was discussing his experiences in Gaza, where he uncovered large caches of weapons in local homes and explained the Israeli military's stringent rules of engagement.

The strange pizza theft was not the end of the disruptions. When the floor was opened for a Q&A session, the same student who had taken the pizzas launched a verbal attack on Kvatinsky. Will Sussman, an MIT computer science student who attended the event, reported that the student accused Kvatinsky of being a "murderer" and questioned how he could sleep at night knowing he might face war crime charges.

The professor was also subjected to further accusations from other students, who labeled him a genocidal war criminal and questioned him about allegations of IDF soldiers raping women. In response to these accusations, Kvatinsky told The Post, "Facts don’t matter to them. They just memorized some texts they [wanted] to say, and it’s unrelated to the facts."

The event took another bizarre turn when two more students grabbed an additional five pizza boxes and left the room. Another student displayed a sign reading "MIT Jews oppose genocide" as he exited the talk. Sussman commented on the strange behavior, stating, "Some in the audience were pretty upset by things these students were saying but it was mostly just strange that they thought taking pizzas from an event is going to accomplish anything."

The incident at MIT is indicative of a broader issue of anti-Israel sentiment and antisemitism at universities across the United States. This has been particularly prevalent following the deadly Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 civilians.

Earlier this year, the Republican-led House Committee on Education and the Workforce accused MIT of failing to protect Jewish students. The committee demanded evidence of how the university has handled complaints of antisemitism on campus. Talia Khan, president of the MIT Israel Alliance, testified to the congressional committee in December, revealing that a survey found 70% of Jewish students on campus felt compelled to hide their religious identity out of fear.
