Lebanese security sources have confirmed the death, which has further escalated the already tense situation in the region.
According to the Daily Mail, the Israeli military has acknowledged conducting a 'targeted strike' on the Lebanese capital. Images from the scene depict a massive crater in the Daniyeh suburb, a known Hezbollah stronghold, where a building once stood. The strike reportedly claimed the life of senior Hezbollah terror cell commander, Ibrahim Aqil, who was infamous for his involvement in 1980s terror attacks on Americans in Lebanon. The US had placed a $7 million bounty on Aqil.
An anonymous source revealed, "The Israeli air strike killed Radwan Force commander Ibrahim Aqil, its armed force's second-in-command after Fuad Shukr," who was also killed in an Israeli strike in July, in Hezbollah's southern Beirut stronghold. This news coincided with Hezbollah's retaliation, launching approximately 150 rockets into Israel in response to overnight bombing raids. The militant group claimed to have targeted Israel's primary intelligence headquarters in the north.
The region is witnessing a surge in tensions following sabotage attacks on thousands of Hezbollah fighters' communication devices, attributed to Israel by the militant group and its ally, Iran. Israel has remained silent on these allegations but has intensified its campaign against Hezbollah since the attacks began on Tuesday, targeting numerous rocket launchers in southern Lebanon.
