The frequency of assassination attempts on presidential candidates has seen a disturbing rise in 2024, leading to a nationwide quest for answers.

The recent alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at the Trump International Golf Course near West Palm Beach, Florida, has raised serious questions about security measures in place.

According to Gateway Pundit, the alleged assailant, Ryan Wesley Routh, was able to approach dangerously close to Trump due to a glaring security gap at the golf course. This gap, as reported by the New York Post, has been known to the Secret Service for years. Routh was eventually apprehended after he was spotted hiding in the golf course's shrubbery, ready to strike.

The Secret Service reportedly spotted Routh's weapon, leading to a confrontation that forced the would-be assassin to flee. Local law enforcement later apprehended Routh, who is now facing charges for possessing a firearm despite a prior felony conviction and possession of a firearm with a removed serial number.

The New York Post's report highlighted the ease with which news photographers, including those hired by the Post, have repeatedly secured spots around the golf course's perimeter to capture images of Trump. Some photographers have managed to get as close as 75 yards to the former president, often unnoticed, thanks to the same security gap that allowed Routh to approach.

Routh reportedly managed to get within 300 to 500 yards of Trump, a distance well within the range for a skilled marksman with a scope. "They're always amazed how close they can get to Trump and his entourage," a photo agency told the New York Post, adding, "it's easy for them."

This incident has intensified the ongoing debate about the competency of the Secret Service, particularly in light of a previous attempt on Trump's life just two months ago. In July, Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in a shockingly straightforward plot that involved gaining access to a nearby roof. Trump was injured in that attempt, with his ear hit by Crooks. A rally attendee, firefighter Corey Comperatore, was fatally shot by Crooks.

The security gap at Trump's golf course and the ease with which potential threats can approach the former President raise serious concerns about the effectiveness of the Secret Service. The recent incidents have underscored the need for a thorough review and overhaul of security measures to ensure the safety of public figures. The question remains: How many more incidents will it take before significant changes are made?
