The AFL is seeking to uncover any records the current administration may hold on Routh, who is known for his anti-Trump sentiments and connections to Ukraine.
According to the Daily Caller, the AFL's inquiry is multi-faceted, focusing on whether the government was monitoring Routh due to his controversial history. The group has demanded all records related to Routh to ascertain if the federal authorities were aware of the potential threat he posed to the former President. The AFL's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests highlight Routh's extensive criminal record, his public offer to assist in sending foreign fighters to Ukraine, and his vocal online criticism of President Trump, particularly following the initial assassination attempt.

The AFL has sought records from nine federal agencies and departments, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A), Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Defense (DOD), Department of State (DOS), Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). The Daily Caller reached out to these agencies for comment but received no response. The White House also remained silent on the matter.

Gene Hamilton, AFL's Executive Director, expressed concern over the two recent assassination attempts on former President Trump. "Undoubtedly, based on public reporting about the attempted assassin in Florida, the Biden-Harris government has records that the American public is entitled to see," Hamilton stated. He further noted the peculiarity of Routh's involvement in a foreign conflict and his attempts to recruit others, suggesting that "someone" must have been aware of his activities.
Routh was charged with two firearm-related offenses in a federal court on Monday, including possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, as reported by Reuters.
The AFL had previously initiated an investigation into the first assassination attempt on Trump in July at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The group sought information from the DHS and Secret Service through FOIAs, emphasizing the American public's right to know if requests for additional security resources were denied. This ongoing scrutiny underscores the AFL's commitment to transparency and the public's right to information.
