This incident occurred while the former President was engaged in a round of golf at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
According to The New York Post, the U.S. Secret Service agents on duty responded swiftly when Ryan Wesley Routh, allegedly armed with a rifle, was spotted near the former President. Routh, who was reportedly carrying a GoPro camera and two backpacks, is said to have thrust the muzzle of his rifle through a chain-link fence, positioning himself approximately 300 to 500 yards from Trump. Upon observing Routh raising his weapon, the agents opened fire, as confirmed by Fox News' Lucas Tomlinson. Routh attempted to escape in a black Nissan but was quickly apprehended by the authorities.
The incident, which unfolded while Trump was on the fifth hole of his golf course, led to his protective detail swiftly escorting him to the safety of the clubhouse. This marks the second assassination attempt on Trump in a span of just two months.

This incident is the second in a worrying trend. Just 64 days prior, another gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, managed to get alarmingly close to the former President at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. From the roof of a nearby building, Crooks fired eight rounds, one of which grazed Trump's ear. A slight shift in position could have resulted in severe brain damage or even death.

The investigation into how Crooks managed to gain access to an unmanned building so close to Trump is being led by a bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Mike Kelly, R-Pa., and Jason Crow, D-Colo. The lawmakers have requested a briefing with the U.S. Secret Service to discuss the events leading up to this second assassination attempt on Trump, this time in West Palm Beach.
