The gift was a knife, steeped in historical significance, with a handle crafted from the wood of the last known tree planted by George Washington. The blade was made from the steel of the door breached during the operation that led to the assassination of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The knife was framed against a shirt worn by the soldier who delivered the fatal shot to the terrorist.
According to The Post Millennial, the Republican nominee paused his address to welcome the Gold Star families and Lucas Ohara, the blacksmith who fashioned the knife, onto the stage. Darin Hoover, the father of the late Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, introduced the families and shared their previous encounter with Trump at Bedminster.

"We were able to be invited down to Bedminster, after one of our long, long meetings [in Congress],” Hoover shared with the audience. “Where we spent six hours with this wonderful man back here.” He spoke warmly of Trump's empathy and support as the families mourned their lost children during the visit last year.
Hoover then passed the baton to Ohara, the proprietor of Grizzly Forge, to present the knife. "The blade has forged steel from the door that al-Baghdadi was hiding behind,” Ohara informed the fundraiser attendees. “The guard is eighteenth-century wrought iron from a wagon wheel that crossed the US on the Oregon trail. The handle is white oak from the last known tree that George Washington planted that fell at Mt. Vernon at 240 years old."

"And the backdrop is the actual shirt the operator wore when he shot al-Baghdadi in the face,” Ohara added, before presenting the knife to Trump on behalf of the Gold Star families.

Trump, during his speech, underscored the importance of a robust military and recounted the story of al-Baghdadi's demise. This gesture from the Gold Star families, and Trump's acceptance of it, underscores the conservative values of honoring military service and the sacrifices made in the name of national security.
