The governor described these teachings as "divisive" and unfit for Louisiana classrooms.
According to The Post Millennial, the governor's office released a statement explaining the decision. "Critical Race Theory (CRT) includes divisive teachings that instruct students to view life through the lens of race and victimhood. Governor Landry believes students should be learning about American exceptionalism and the principles embodied in State and Federal Constitutions of the United States of America that recognize the equal value of every individual."
Governor Landry expressed his belief that the teachings of CRT, which he argues position children as either oppressed or oppressors based on their race and origin, are inappropriate for Louisiana classrooms. "This executive order is a much-needed sigh of relief for parents and students across our state, especially as kids are heading back to school," Landry said. He expressed his confidence in Dr. Brumley's leadership to steer the state's education system towards prioritizing American values and common-sense teachings.

This move by Louisiana is not an isolated incident. Other Republican-led states across the US have also taken similar steps to curb the influence of CRT in their education systems. In 2021, both Florida and Idaho passed legislation banning CRT from state-funded classrooms.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis echoed Landry's sentiments, stating, "Critical Race Theory teaches kids to hate our country and to hate each other. It is state-sanctioned racism and has no place in Florida schools." This collective action by conservative states underscores their commitment to preserving traditional American values in education, a stance that is likely to continue shaping the national discourse on the subject.
