Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz, selected by Kamala Harris for the 2024 Democratic ticket, has a history of supporting policies that favor illegal immigrants.

As governor of Minnesota in 2023, Walz endorsed a law granting free college tuition to illegal immigrants, a move that has sparked controversy in light of his new political role.

According to The Post Millennial, Walz signed an omnibus education bill into law in 2023, known as the "North Star Promise" program. This initiative allowed illegal immigrants to apply for free college tuition within the Minnesota State and University of Minnesota school systems, provided their families earned less than $80,000 annually.

The Minnesota Office of Higher Education described the program as a "last-dollar" initiative, stating, "the program will create a tuition and fee-free pathway to higher education for eligible Minnesota residents at eligible institutions by covering the balance of tuition and fees remaining after other scholarships, grants, stipends and tuition waivers have been applied."

Walz's support for illegal immigrants extended beyond education. He also signed a bill granting them driver’s licenses. Defending his decision, Walz stated, “Ensuring drivers in our state are licensed and carry insurance makes the roads safer for all Minnesotans," as reported by the National Review.
