Ric Grenell, the former Acting Director of National Intelligence during the Trump administration, and former New York Representative Lee Zeldin have unveiled the "Protecting America Initiative." The organization's primary objective is to assist state legislators in enacting laws that would curtail the CCP's expanding influence in the United States.
According to the Daily Caller, the organization's launch video underscores several threats posed by the CCP, including the illegal crossing of Chinese nationals into America and the acquisition of American farmland. "The threat from the Chinese Communist Party is on the rise, and their dangerous ideas have been allowed to infiltrate American culture. Our borders, critical infrastructure, higher education system, and agriculture industries are all under assault. Communist China is seeking to influence our country and erase our liberties," Grenell, a senior advisor to the group, stated.

The House Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability reported a staggering 8,000% increase in Chinese illegal immigration since March 2021. Additionally, a report by The Heritage Foundation in May highlighted the inadequate response of the United States to the threat of Chinese ownership of American farmland, suggesting that the country is ill-prepared to handle such a threat.

The Protecting America Initiative advocates for several legislative proposals to mitigate the escalating threat from the CCP. These include banning Chinese companies that import drugs like fentanyl, mandating state infrastructure projects to purchase American-made supplies, and combating China's attempts to steal American intellectual property. The launch video of the group warns, "Our biggest threat lies across the Pacific, Communist China. They’re on the march to influence and disrupt America from the inside out. We must act now to stop them. And it starts with state leaders who will recognize and respond to China’s threats."

In the lead-up to the organization's launch, the Tyson Group conducted a poll to gauge American concerns about the CCP's presence in the U.S. The poll revealed that 41% of Americans perceive China as the most significant threat to U.S. national security. Furthermore, 68% of Americans believe that China poses a major threat as it lobbies politicians and buys influence.

Lee Zeldin, another senior advisor to the Protecting America Initiative, expressed his concerns about the growing Chinese influence in various aspects of American life. "Every facet of American life is dealing with unprecedented Chinese influence. Our students are seeing their campuses being taken over by CCP ideas, and our border patrol agents are facing a record number of Chinese nationals coming across our border," Zeldin stated. He emphasized the need for state leaders across the country to step up and protect Americans from the escalating China threat, asserting that reliance on a "broken Washington swamp" is no longer viable.
