The book, "Billionaire, Nerd, Savior, King: Bill Gates and His Quest to Shape Our World," authored by Anupreeta Das, finance editor at the New York Times, suggests that Gates had become obsessed with the idea of winning the prestigious award.
According to Fox News, Epstein, who pleaded guilty to procuring underage girls in 2008, sought to establish a relationship with Gates in 2010 in an attempt to cleanse his tarnished reputation. Epstein reportedly told a Gates Foundation staffer that he could facilitate connections between Gates and influential figures within the Nobel community.
Das' book further reveals that Gates, Epstein, and Norwegian diplomat Terje Rod-Larsen traveled to France several years later to meet with Thorbjorn Jagland, the chair of the Nobel committee. However, this 2013 meeting did not result in Gates receiving the coveted award. Rod-Larsen was later compelled to resign from the International Peace Institute in 2020 due to his connections with Epstein.

Reflecting on his association with Epstein, Gates expressed regret in a 2021 interview with CNN, labeling it a "huge mistake." A spokesperson for Gates vehemently criticized parts of Das' book, stating, "The book includes highly sensationalized allegations and outright falsehoods that ignore the actual documented facts our office provided to the author on numerous occasions."

Gates' representative emphasized that the billionaire's interactions with Epstein were strictly related to philanthropy, not personal indulgence. Gates' former wife, Melinda Gates, has expressed her discomfort with his dealings with Epstein, whom she described as "evil personified" in a 2021 interview with Gayle King.

An executive quoted in the book acknowledged Gates' awkwardness with women but dismissed comparisons to disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein.

Despite these allegations, the executive stated, "I know of no real situation in which anyone got anything for sleeping with Bill." This behavior, however, reportedly led to company managers prohibiting female employees from spending time alone with Gates.
