In recent weeks, the media landscape has been awash with glowing coverage of Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

As she traverses the nation, showcasing her credentials and making a case for her presidential bid, the media's adulation seems unwavering. A case in point is a recent piece by The Atlantic, which attempted to portray her infamous laughter and convoluted speeches as part of her "oddball charm."

The Atlantic wrote, "The point was not what she was saying, but how she was saying it: a hallmark, perhaps now more than ever, of what people want from politics," in reference to Harris's remarks at a star-studded rally in Atlanta. This statement, however, appears to be a peculiar interpretation of her political communication style.

According to RedState, another consistent aspect of Harris's campaign strategy is her apparent evasion of the media. Seventeen days into her campaign, Harris has yet to address several pressing issues. These include her understanding of President Biden's mental decline, her approach to the escalating Middle East crisis, looming recession fears, her record as "border czar," the revelations about Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff's extramarital affair during his first marriage, and her far-left stances during her 2020 presidential bid. These positions have been subtly addressed through reversal statements to the press.

Jeffrey McCall, a journalism professor, suggested that Harris's media avoidance is a deliberate strategy. "As long as she is getting so much favorable press coverage, there is no need for her to take the risks associated with doing unscripted press interactions," McCall told Fox News Digital. He further noted that Harris's political career has been marked by her struggle with extemporaneous speaking, often resulting in "word salads and unserious style."

Meanwhile, GOP vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) has been vocal about Harris's lack of engagement with the media. He has been tracking the days since Harris last addressed the media on his Twitter page. Vance criticized the media for their lack of scrutiny over Harris's avoidance of pertinent issues. "The American people deserve to get to know the people who want to lead them, and I think it’s shameful for Kamala Harris, but increasingly for the media, that she is taking a basement strategy of running from reporters instead of getting in front of them and answering tough questions about her record and letting the American people know who she is," Vance stated.

While some may hope that the media's infatuation with Harris will soon wane, it seems unlikely given their recent role in supporting Democrats and their wealthy donors in pressuring President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race. However, history has shown that Democrats often falter under their own weight, as evidenced by Biden's disastrous debate performance. It remains to be seen whether Harris will follow a similar trajectory due to her inability to effectively communicate her stance on critical issues.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, it is crucial to remain vigilant and informed. The media's role in shaping public opinion and its potential bias towards certain candidates should not be overlooked. As the race for the presidency continues, it is hoped that all candidates will be held to the same standard of scrutiny and transparency.
