According to The Post Millennial, the allegations include regular instances of Harris berating her staff, often resorting to profanity. One staffer recounted how Harris would demand her employees to stand and greet her each morning with the words, "Good morning, general."
These claims were brought to light in a 2019 op-ed penned by Democrat professor Terry McAteer for The Union. The piece detailed the experiences of his son, Gregory, who interned for Harris during her time as California's Attorney General. McAteer wrote the article to expose "a side of Kamala Harris which the general public does not know."
In the piece, titled "Another Side to Kamala Harris," McAteer wrote, "Gregory was also given instruction to never address Harris nor look her in the eye as that privilege was only allowed to senior staff members." He further alleged that the staff members were so fearful of Harris that they refrained from introducing his son to her during her tenure as the attorney general from 2011 to 2017.

Gregory McAteer's LinkedIn page, archived on Red State, shows that he served as a public policy intern for Harris from June to August 2011. This is not the first time that Harris has been accused of mistreatment by former staffers, with many labeling her as a "bully."

A report from OpenTheBooks.com revealed that Harris has a staggering 95.1 percent staff turnover rate in the Office of the Vice President. Shortly after Harris assumed the role of Vice President in 2021, a staffer resigned, citing Harris's mistreatment. The staffer told the Washington Post, "It's clear that you're not working with somebody who is willing to do the prep and the work."

The former staffer further elaborated on the challenging work environment, stating, "With Kamala you have to put up with a constant amount of soul-destroying criticism and also her own lack of confidence. So, you're constantly sort of propping up a bully and it's not really clear why."

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) confirmed the high turnover rate during an interview with Fox News. McCarthy stated that "nobody lasts very long" while working for Kamala Harris. He added, "Even as VP, when she didn't do anything, she could not keep staff," and concluded, "How she treats people around her is a real indication of what she'll do in the future."
