This has led to speculation about the domestic policies she might implement if she were to become president, according to critics who spoke to The New York Post.
Harris, the daughter of Marxist economist Donald Harris, has never shied away from her left-leaning ideology. In the days leading up to the 2020 election, she reaffirmed her commitment to DEI principles by sharing a video that explained the difference between "equality and equity." The video, which depicted black and white mountain climbers, aimed to illustrate the concept of equity, which ensures equal outcomes for all. "There’s a big difference between equality and equity,” Harris stated in the video. “Equitable treatment means we all end up at the same place."
As reported by The New York Post, Harris, who is considered by some conservatives as a DEI candidate, has consistently championed DEI and similar initiatives throughout her career. During her tenure as San Francisco's district attorney (2004-2011) and later as California's attorney general (2011-2017), Harris made significant changes to the state's three-strikes law and was criticized for slow prosecutions. In 2008, The San Francisco Chronicle's editorial board criticized Harris for not processing the deportations of drug dealers.
Harris has also consistently supported affirmative action on college campuses. Following a 2016 Supreme Court decision that upheld affirmative action (which was later reversed), she lauded the ruling, saying, “SCOTUS’ decision to allow race as one consideration for college admissions allows us to embrace the benefits of diversity.”

Harris has been a vocal supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, whose co-founder Patrisse Cullors has identified herself and her fellow organizers as “trained Marxists.” In June 2016, Harris expressed pride in being part of a political party that included the words #BlackLivesMatter in its platform. She has also praised BLM co-founder Alicia Garza as “a powerful voice against police injustice.”

In February 2019, Harris signaled her support for reparations for black Americans. “We have got to recognize, back to that earlier point, people aren’t starting out on the same base in terms of their ability to succeed,” Harris told Politico. “So we have got to recognize that and give people a lift up.” She co-sponsored a bill in April 2019 that would create a commission to study the issue.

Before her move to the Senate in January 2017, Harris openly supported far-left prosecutors funded by George Soros. “Progressive prosecutors are key to criminal justice reforms like rolling back mass incarceration and ending cash bail,” she said after the election of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. She reiterated her opposition to cash bail in 2019 as vice president.

Harris has also been involved in controversial cases, such as the Jussie Smollett case, where she immediately labeled the alleged assault as an “attempted modern day lynching.” She also encouraged people to donate to a bail fund to help release BLM protesters from detention.

Harris has also advocated for defunding the police. “This whole movement is about rightly saying, we need to take a look at these budgets and figure out whether it reflects the right priorities,” Harris said on the “Ebro in the Morning” radio show.

However, her stance on these issues has drawn criticism. “A Harris Administration would be a nightmare for every American regardless of race, color or creed. It would be more concerned about policing our pronouns rather than policing our streets,” warned Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ). “America is not based on quotas — it’s about having the best and the brightest helping us blaze new trails of greatness. Based on her past actions she will sink us into a woke mediocrity.”

Veteran Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf echoed these sentiments, stating, “This stuff is not going to fly in Arizona and Nevada.” These criticisms highlight the potential challenges Harris may face in implementing her policies, particularly in states with more conservative leanings.
