The Biden-Harris administration has put a "temporary pause" on a contentious "parole" program that has been permitting up to 30,000 undocumented immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to fly into the U.S. each month.

This decision comes in the wake of internal documents revealing a significant level of fraud in the sponsorship process for these immigrants.

According to The Post Millennial, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) informed them that the program has been "temporarily paused" due to an "abundance of caution." A congressional source disclosed to the outlet that the pause was implemented in mid-July, following the discovery of widespread fraud within the system. The fraud was primarily related to individuals falsely claiming to sponsor parole applicants. A report shared with the outlet revealed that 100,948 forms were completed by 3,218 serial sponsors, prompting the DHS to pause and review the applications.

"DHS has review mechanisms in place to detect and prevent fraud and abuse in our immigration processes. DHS takes any abuse of its processes very seriously," a DHS representative stated. "Where fraud is identified, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will investigate and litigate applicable cases in immigration court and make criminal referrals to the Department of Justice."

The DHS further added, "Out of an abundance of caution, DHS has temporarily paused the issuance of advanced travel authorizations for new beneficiaries while it undertakes a review of supporter applications. DHS will restart application processing as quickly as possible, with appropriate safeguards."

The program, which has contributed to the large influx of illegal immigrants entering the country under the Biden administration, was initiated in October 2022 for Venezuelans. It allowed a limited number of individuals to fly to the US, provided they had a sponsor in the US. The program does not facilitate the flights, and the immigrants arrange their own travel. In January 2023, the Biden-Harris administration announced an expansion of the program to include Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Cubans.

Internal documents presented to Fox News revealed that those applying to sponsor immigrants through the program were repeatedly using the same social security numbers, addresses, and phone numbers. The Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate created an internal report that showed 100,948 forms were completed by 3,218 serial sponsors for immigrants under the program. More than 19,000 immigrant sponsorship forms used 100 different addresses between 124 and 739 times.

The DHS maintains that immigrants who arrive on sponsorship are "thoroughly screened and vetted prior to their arrival to the United States." "The multi-layered screening and vetting for advanced travel authorizations is separate from the screening of US-based supporters," the spokesperson added. "DHS has not identified issues of concern relating to the screening and vetting of beneficiaries." The Biden-Harris administration is also permitting approximately 1,450 illegal immigrants to cross the border daily using the CBP One app.

In 2021, President Biden appointed Harris to address the "root causes" of illegal immigration, a role often referred to as the "border czar." Since assuming the role as the presumptive Democrat nominee, she has faced significant criticism from Republicans on the issue of immigration.
