In a recent podcast, comedian Andrew Schulz expressed his fascination with former President Donald Trump's anti-establishment rhetoric, while criticizing the Democratic party's lack of inspiring messaging.

Schulz's comments come at a time when public trust in institutions such as television news and Congress is at an all-time low, reflecting a broader societal disillusionment.

As reported by the Daily Caller, Schulz, during his appearance on "The Brilliant Idiots" podcast, suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris might find it challenging to defeat Trump in an election. He attributed this to the appeal of Trump's anti-establishment stance, which resonates with a significant portion of the electorate. "He’s very enticing, he’s incredibly enticing and I think that he’s enticing because I think the Democrats have utterly failed to inspire us in any way, shape, or form," Schulz stated. He further noted that Harris, who was not chosen through a democratic process, bears a significant responsibility to inspire voters.

The conversation took an interesting turn when co-host Charlamagne Tha God questioned whether Trump was still challenging the system. Schulz responded by emphasizing the importance of perception over reality. "It’s not about whether he is or isn’t; it’s the perception that he is," Schulz said. He argued that if voters feel let down by institutions such as the pharmaceutical industry or the military-industrial complex, and Trump appears to question these entities, it naturally appeals to them.

Schulz further elaborated on the allure of Trump's rhetoric, stating, "The enticement comes from the facts that he’s calling out these institutions that have let me down and let Americans down, right?" He suggested that if a candidate is not critical of institutions that have lost public faith, they risk appearing as a shill for these entities, which could alienate voters, particularly those in the middle of the political spectrum.

In a similar vein, journalist Katie Couric recently expressed concerns about the Democratic party losing its hold on working-class voters. She suggested that the party needs to refine its messaging to regain this demographic. Trump has consistently sought to attract typically Democratic-leaning union workers with his populist trade policies, reportedly making significant progress.

However, despite Schulz's critique and Couric's concerns, recent polls indicate a substantial level of support for Harris within the Democratic party. An AP/NORC poll released on Wednesday revealed that nearly eight in ten Democrats are satisfied with Harris as the presumptive nominee. However, only 71% believe she can secure an electoral victory against Trump, suggesting a degree of uncertainty about her electability.
