The House Judiciary Committee has issued a call for the submission of documents from Loren Merchan, the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, in relation to her firm's interactions with the Biden and Harris campaigns.

The committee is also seeking materials connected to the prosecution of former President Donald Trump in a New York case involving falsified business records. Loren Merchan, who held the position of Vice President at Authentic Campaigns and served as the director of digital persuasion for Kamala Harris' presidential campaign in 2019, is now the President of the firm.

As reported by The Post Millennial, the committee's letter to Loren Merchan highlighted the firm's political ties to prominent Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris, who is presumed to be their next presidential nominee. Authentic Campaigns has received significant payments from various Democratic figures, including Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), Rep. Dan Goldman (D-CA), and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI). The firm's earnings from Democrats saw an 86 percent increase in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2022, with a total of $12.7 million. In 2020, the Biden-Harris campaign paid Authentic Campaigns millions for "digital marketing and fundraising."

The committee's letter stated, “The Committee on the Judiciary is conducting oversight of politically motivated prosecutions by state and local officials. At a minimum, there is a perception that you and Authentic Campaigns could profit considerably from President Trump’s prosecution in a forum overseen by your father.” The letter further expressed concerns about Judge Merchan's refusal to recuse himself from Trump's case, despite his daughter's work for Trump's political rivals. It also criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's pursuit of charges against Trump, describing it as "a convoluted and novel legal theory" in a case that federal officials had previously declined to pursue.

The House Judiciary Committee has requested that Authentic Campaigns provide all contracts and invoices related to work performed for the Biden and Harris presidential campaigns or the Democratic National Committee from January 1, 2023, onwards. The committee also seeks all documents and communications related to any work by Authentic Campaigns that refers to the indictment, prosecution, or conviction of President Trump from April 1, 2023, onwards. The deadline for the submission of these documents is August 8.

This development comes after Trump's legal team filed an appeal to disqualify Judge Merchan from his New York criminal trial, arguing that the case was compromised due to the judge’s daughter’s ties to Democrats. Trump's sentencing for his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records has been postponed by Judge Merchan until September, a move that critics argue is politically motivated.
