Kamala’s Hollywood Makeover: SNL And The Media’s SHAMELESS Hype Machine

In the bustling city of New York, a narrative is being woven around Vice President Kamala Harris' potential presidential run.

According to The New York Post, Maya Rudolph is set to reprise her Emmy-winning portrayal of Harris on "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) this fall. Rudolph's depiction of Harris as a fun, fierce, and wine-loving aunt, ready to dismantle her opponents with sharp retorts, is expected to continue.

Both Harris and former President Donald Trump offer ample material for parody. Trump's grandiose speeches, rigid mannerisms, and patriotic displays contrast sharply with Harris's convoluted rhetoric and unsettling laughter. One can only imagine the comedic potential of Harris's interview with Lester Holt, where she, the so-called "border czar," admitted to not having visited the actual border. When Holt pointed this out, Harris responded with a disconcerting laugh, "And I haven't been to Europe."

However, it is anticipated that only one of these figures will be portrayed as a fool. SNL seems to have abandoned its traditional bipartisan approach to political satire. The era of equal ridicule for both political sides seems to have vanished with the arrival of President Obama, whom former show writer Jim Downey claimed lacked any "flaw or hook that you can caricature."

This trend aligns with the treatment of Harris's emerging campaign. It appears that Trump isn't just competing against Harris, but also against liberal media and cultural institutions that are constructing a protective shell around the Vice President. They are crafting a version of Kamala that the nation can envision in the Oval Office.

The media seems to be enabling the Democratic Party to revise Harris's history, from her extreme left-wing policy positions to her role in managing the border. Over the weekend, Politico published an article about her stance on fracking, which she openly stated in 2019 that she wanted to ban. However, the headline read, "Harris campaign pledges she won't ban fracking after Trump accusation." After facing backlash, they removed the "Trump accusations" from the headline but retained it in the article.

The media has repeatedly asserted that Harris was not responsible for the border, despite a plethora of stories and clips from 2021 suggesting the contrary. This week, New York Magazine's cover featured a laughing Harris with the caption "Kamalot," while Gen Z TikTokers have crowned her a "brat" with a flood of memes.

Esquire delved into her cookbook collection, and The Los Angeles Times ran a story titled, "Kamala Harris is a cook — and she knows her LA restaurants. Will it help her win?" If it does, it's a grim reflection of our society. We get what we deserve. We're all burnt toast.

In the absence of substantial reporting, these fluffy features are absurd. Every publication from the New York Times to the New Yorker has covered her "vibe shift," but not much about her policy shift.

Harris has supported abolishing ICE and was a sponsor of the Green New Deal. In 2019, GovTrack ranked her as the "most liberal" member of the Senate, a label that has since been erased. GovTrack recently retracted the label, stating that data from a single year "was not sufficient to create a reliable portrait of the activity of legislators."

It's curious how this became an issue.

Harris has consistently maintained that President Biden is vigorous and healthy. Her 2019 campaign revealed her to be a candidate lacking seriousness, riddled with flaws, and devoid of substance. She has held two political rallies, one of which was essentially a hosting gig for a Megan Thee Stallion performance.

The Democrats seem to be running a similar campaign to Biden's 2020 strategy: from the basement. With only three months to maintain this facade, it's entirely possible she'll be ushered into the White House.

So much for preserving democracy.

Meanwhile, Trump has expressed his desire to renegotiate the terms of their debates, which he agreed upon with Biden, not Harris. However, he is willing to enter hostile territory. On Wednesday, he attended a National Black Association of Journalists panel, which was either a resounding success or a catastrophic failure, depending on one's social media echo chamber.

But let's not pretend that Harris is facing reality in this new campaign. She's running on an anti-gravity treadmill, moving her legs but not feeling the impact of the pavement — or reality.

Team Trump is allowing this to happen. Instead of exposing this charade and focusing on his opponent's true political identity, Trump is engaging in debates about her racial identity. The Trump camp needs to concentrate on substance and reduce personal attacks. Otherwise, they might find themselves on the list of entities they are running against.
