In a relentless assault on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Russian forces have inflicted significant damage, according to American Military News.

This latest offensive, part of President Vladimir Putin's ongoing campaign, aims to disrupt Ukraine's power system, causing widespread blackouts and leaving the authorities scrambling to repair the damage before the onset of winter, when electricity demand peaks.

The Russian forces targeted several regions, including the central Dnipropetrovsk and Vinnytsia regions, the Kyiv region, and a portion of the Donetsk region in the east, as reported by Ukraine's Energy Ministry. The ministry, however, did not provide specifics on the infrastructure that was hit. DTEK, Ukraine's largest power producer, revealed that the attack severely damaged one of its thermal power plants and injured three workers. "This was the seventh attack against the company’s power plants over the past three months," DTEK stated on Telegram.

Despite the destruction, Ukraine's defense forces managed to down all 27 explosive-laden Shahed drones and five out of nine missiles launched by Russia overnight, according to Air Force commander Mykola Oleshchuk. However, the country's air defense system failed to intercept ballistic Iskander-M missiles fired from Russia’s Voronezh region, highlighting its vulnerability to such weaponry. The advanced air defense systems donated by Kyiv’s western allies are insufficient to cover the entire country's territory.

Meanwhile, President Putin has shown no inclination to engage with the Ukrainian peace plan. Instead, he has signed a treaty on military aid with North Korea and toured Vietnam, seemingly disregarding U.S. criticism.

In a counterclaim, Russia alleged that the Ukrainian military also launched drone attacks against its territory overnight. Moscow's defense ministry reported downing nine drones over the southern Adygeya and Krasnodar regions. A civilian casualty was reported when a drone fell on a house in Slavyansk-na-Kubani, a town in the Krasnodar region, according to the local governor. Fires were also reported at fuel depots in Adygeya and Tambov regions, which the respective regional governors attributed to presumed drone attacks. However, Ukraine has not publicly acknowledged launching these strikes.

The ongoing conflict and the escalating attacks on infrastructure underscore the urgent need for a resolution. However, with both sides seemingly entrenched in their positions, the path to peace remains uncertain.
