In a move that resonates deeply with his personal experiences, President Joe Biden, now 81, has declared June 15 as “World Elder Abuse Awareness Day."

As reported by Gateway Pundit, the President's decision comes amidst growing concerns about his own cognitive health, which critics argue is deteriorating with each passing day.

The White House released a statement, underscoring the significance of the elderly in American society. "Older Americans are the heart and soul of our families, our communities, and our Nation. But every year, up to five million older Americans face some form of abuse. Around the world, too many are denied the opportunity to age with dignity and security," the statement read.

The proclamation of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is a commitment to stand with survivors of elder abuse, shed light on this critical issue, and strive for a world where no older person lives in fear of violence, abuse, or neglect. The statement continued, "NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 15, 2024, as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day."

The President urged all Americans to be vigilant, to strengthen existing partnerships, and to seek new opportunities to enhance the nation's prevention of and response to elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

While some may find an element of irony in this proclamation, given the President's age and perceived cognitive decline, the issue of elder abuse remains a grave concern affecting millions of elderly Americans. The American Psychological Association reports that elder abuse can manifest in various forms, including physical, sexual, financial, and emotional abuse of anyone over the age of 60.

The Association advises, “If you suspect someone you know is being abused or neglected, don’t let your fear of meddling in someone else’s business stop you from reporting your suspicions.” They further explain that every state has a service, known as Adult Protective Services, designated to receive and investigate allegations of elder abuse and neglect.

The U.S. Administration on Aging sponsors the Eldercare Locator, a nationwide service that connects older Americans and their caregivers with information on services for older adults. This initiative is a testament to the importance of safeguarding the rights and dignity of the elderly, a cause that President Biden has now officially recognized with the proclamation of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
