The latest episode of Bill Maher's show, "Real Time with Bill Maher," witnessed a heated exchange between the host and radio personality Charlamagne Tha God over racial disparities in America.

The conversation was sparked by Charlamagne's assertion that black individuals must strive five times harder to achieve success in the United States. Maher, however, dismissed this claim as a "zombie lie," according to the Daily Mail.

The discussion was prompted by Maher's reference to President Biden's recent commencement speech at Morehouse College, a historically black institution in Atlanta, Georgia. During his address, Biden posed a question to the graduating students, "What is democracy if you have to be ten times better than anyone else to get a fair shot?" This statement was met with mixed reactions from various quarters.

Maher, in his conversation with Charlamagne, highlighted the responses of two prominent black intellectuals, economist Glenn Loury and linguist John McWhorter, to Biden's comment. Loury criticized the President's speech, stating, "I thought this was the kind of speech you'd have given in 1974, maybe 1984, but not in 2024." McWhorter, on the other hand, urged for an acknowledgment of the passage of time, stating, "For goodness sake, can we please admit that time passes? I remember my mother saying that in the '70s when it still made some sense. It's simply not true anymore, and we should celebrate that."

When Maher questioned Charlamagne, who had previously dismissed DEI programs as "mostly garbage," about his agreement with Biden's statement, the radio host responded, "I don't know if it's 10 times better but maybe five." This claim led to a visible disagreement between the two, with Maher expressing disbelief and Charlamagne insisting on the reality of racial disparities in America.

The episode also featured political strategist Ana Navarro and journalist Joel Stein, with the conversation extending to the Democrats' stance on immigration. Maher expressed his pessimism about President Biden's reelection chances, attributing it to perceptions of his age and the ongoing immigration crisis. He drew parallels between the recent European Union elections, where far-right parties made significant gains, and the upcoming US Election on November 5.

Maher argued that the Democrats' reluctance to address immigration issues could lead to their downfall in the upcoming elections. He quoted a 2019 article from The Atlantic, stating, "If liberals insist that enforcing borders is a job only fascists will do, then voters will hire fascists to do what liberals won't." He further emphasized that expressing discomfort with the current level of immigration does not necessarily equate to racism.

The discussion also touched upon Senator Alex Padilla's response to Biden's executive order limiting border crossings, which Padilla criticized as undermining American values. Maher argued that the Democrats' fear of being labeled racist has led to their inaction on immigration, a stance that he believes misjudges the current mood of American voters.

Maher also highlighted a poll showing that 64% of Hispanics supported giving the president authority to shut the border, and another 64% of all registered voters favored immediate deportation of all immigrants living in the US illegally. He dismissed guest Joel Stein's claim that the poll results indicated widespread hatred towards immigrants, arguing that such a sweeping generalization was not accurate.

The host expressed concern over Biden's executive order to shut down asylum requests when the average daily number of arrivals reached 2,500, and keep it closed until it fell to 1,500. Maher warned that this move might not be legally valid as it could violate international treaties or be an overreach of presidential authority.

Maher concluded the discussion by reiterating his belief that Biden's age and the immigration issue could cost him the upcoming election. He criticized the Democrats' handling of the immigration issue, stating, "I mean, just on a political level, I don't think they could have handled it worse."
