The Biden administration is reportedly formulating a strategy to grant legal status to undocumented immigrants, as per a recent report by CBS News.

The proposed initiative, known as "Parole in Place," is set to offer work permits and protection from deportation to illegal immigrants married to U.S. citizens, provided they have lived in the country for a minimum of ten years.

As reported by CBS News, the "Parole in Place" program is designed to bypass a legal obstacle that currently prevents those who entered the U.S. illegally from obtaining green cards without first leaving the country. The initiative aims to provide a pathway to permanent legal status and, eventually, U.S. citizenship for those who qualify.

In addition to this, the Biden administration is also said to be streamlining the waiver process for DREAMers and other undocumented immigrants. This move could potentially simplify their acquisition of temporary visas, such as the H-1B visas intended for highly skilled workers.

According to CBS News, these proposals are likely to be unveiled in tandem with the 12th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program during a White House event. The event is planned to honor DACA, which currently safeguards approximately 530,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children from deportation.

The "Parole in Place" initiative could potentially be the most comprehensive immigration program for unauthorized immigrants since the inception of DACA by former President Barack Obama in 2012. The new policy is aimed at a subset of the estimated 1.1 million unauthorized immigrants who are married to American citizens, assuming they meet certain residency and other criteria.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Biden administration to tackle immigration issues through executive action, particularly in light of the congressional deadlock on the issue. The administration's approach, however, is likely to face criticism from conservative quarters, who argue for stricter immigration controls and the upholding of the rule of law.
