In a striking display of irony, President Biden delivered a speech on gun control mere hours after his son, Hunter Biden, was convicted on all counts in a criminal case centered around his 2018 firearm purchase.

This peculiar timing was not overlooked by social media users, who were quick to point out the incongruity.

According to Fox News, President Biden addressed the annual training conference of Everytown for Gun Safety in Washington D.C., where he underscored his executive actions aimed at mitigating gun violence and reiterated his endorsement for a ban on assault weapons. His speech, however, did not mention his son's conviction, a fact that was promptly seized upon by social media users.

Buzz Patterson, a columnist for RedState, quipped, "Joe Biden giving a gun safety speech on the same day that his son was convicted of gun charges is the most Biden thing ever." Similarly, conservative commentator Kate Hyde juxtaposed headlines about Hunter's verdict and his father's speech, remarking, "Of all the days for Joe Biden to be speaking at ‘Gun Sense University,’"

Spencer Brown, the managing editor of Townhall.com, reported, "Awaiting Biden remarks at ‘Gun Sense University’ before he flies to Wilmington to see Hunter for the first time since his son was convicted on three felonies related to his illegal purchase/possession of a firearm while addicted to crack. Just incredible."

Leigh Wolf, the executive producer of The Ruthless Podcast, noted the irony of Biden speaking at the ‘Gun Sense University’ event hosted by Everytown for Gun Safety on the same day his son was convicted on a federal gun charge. "Just a perfect encapsulation of how the Biden campaign is going," he commented.

Radio host Dana Loesch posed a direct question to Biden, "Do you support your son's conviction over the law you and Everytown have endorsed?" Meanwhile, gun rights activist Colion Noir wrote, "Delivering an anti-gun speech at the same time your son was just found guilty of illegal possession of a firearm is crazy! We live in clown world."

Michigan Rep. Lisa McClain summarized the situation succinctly, "Biden is currently speaking on restricting our Second Amendment rights after his son is convicted on gun charges. Oh, the irony."

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for a comment but received no immediate response. Despite the glaring omission in his speech, President Biden did release a statement regarding his son's verdict. He expressed his pride in his son's resilience and strength in recovery from addiction, and affirmed his respect for the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.

"As I said last week, I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today," Biden said. "Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support," he added, "Nothing will ever change that."
