In a recent interview, Judge Judy Sheindlin, a renowned television personality, expressed her strong disapproval of progressive district attorneys, blaming them for the deterioration of major cities such as New York.

Sheindlin suggested that these attorneys, who are failing to fulfill their duties, should consider alternative careers, such as ice cream vending.

Sheindlin told Fox News Digital, "When you have district attorneys who are charged, whose job it is to do justice, but to keep the community safe … When you have elected district attorneys who don’t know what their job is, they should go find another job." She further added, "Fill ice cream cones someplace. But don’t ruin cities."

Sheindlin pointed out the negative impact of these attorneys on cities like New York City, Portland, and San Francisco, stating, "And what’s happened around New York City, Portland, San Francisco, you had district attorneys who didn’t know what their job was. And the cities are ruined, people are leaving."

Sheindlin attributed the recent surge in daylight attacks on innocent bystanders, including the assault on actor Steve Buscemi, to these lenient crime policies. She expressed her understanding of the situation, stating, "Oh I know how we got here. We got here because a small group of people who have very loud voices created a scenario where bad people got rewarded. And the victim got punished by the system."

She criticized prosecutors for being overly empathetic towards suspects and overlooking their crimes. Sheindlin argued that while there may be reasons behind criminal behavior, such as a troubled upbringing or mental illness, these should not be used as excuses for criminal actions.

Sheindlin also criticized New York's 2019 decision to raise the minimum age for trying a suspect as an adult to 18, calling it "ridiculous". She stated, "You’re just as dead as somebody 18 kills you, or 17. You’re just as dead. And if you’re 17 years old and kill somebody, you don’t belong with kids who are 12, in a juvenile facility… But a very small group of people pushed through in New York State, for instance, raising the level of criminal responsibility."

According to new police data, the New York Police Department is grappling with a post-pandemic surge in violence, with overall major crime rates remaining steady over the past year but showing a significant increase of over 34% compared to 2018.

Despite the grim situation, Sheindlin expressed a reluctant hope for society, while acknowledging that she has been issuing similar warnings for years. Reflecting on a 1993 interview where she predicted worsening conditions over the next decade, she said, "I said, ‘worse’ … A lot worse. And that’s what happened." She concluded with a warning, "I think we better get smarter before we get lost … Permanently lost."
