Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has reiterated his belief that the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) could potentially render all human jobs obsolete.

Musk shared his thoughts during a virtual appearance at the Viva Technology conference in Paris, as reported by the New York Post.

When questioned about the possibility of his own job being usurped by AI, Musk responded, "The question will really be one of meaning, of how — if a computer can do, and the robots can do everything better than you … does your life have meaning."

Musk painted a picture of a future where humans are not required to work. He said, “In a benign scenario, probably none of us will have a job." He further speculated about a society with "universal high income — and not universal basic income — universal high income. There’ll be no shortage of goods or services," as quoted by Fox News Digital.

The Tesla chief estimated an 80% likelihood of all human work being replaced by AI in the future. He posed the question, “The question will really be one of meaning, of how — if a computer can do, and the robots can do everything better than you … does your life have meaning?” He added, “That really will be the question in that benign scenario, and in the negative scenario, all bets are off where we’re in deep trouble.”

Despite his concerns, Musk predicted that AI will eventually supersede all human jobs. This prediction, however, raises questions about the pace at which AI can evolve to make this a reality.

During a discussion with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak last fall, Musk referred to AI as “the most disruptive force in history.” He added, “It’s hard to say exactly what that moment is, but there will come a point where no job is needed. You can have a job if you want to have a job — sort of personal satisfaction — but the AI will be able to do everything.”

Despite Musk's optimistic outlook for the future, it does not seem that AI is on the verge of replacing all human jobs. Musk did not provide a specific timeline for when AI might assume control.
